Engineer’s Day 2025 celebrated at Daffodil International University

Faculty of Engineering of Daffodil International University celebrated ‘Engineer’s Day 2025’, today on May 07, 2025 to pay a tribute to the creativity, innovation and tireless efforts of engineers who shape up our world. The daylong program included rally, Poster presentation, project showcasing, inspirational talks from distinguished engineers, students, workshop, seminar and panel discussion and cultural performances by individual departments.   Celebrating the day a colorful rally was brought out from Engineering Complex and surrounded the main roads of the campus. 

The formal inauguration ceremony of the day was held at Shadhinoto Sommelon Kendro. Mohammad Wahid Hossain, ndc, Chairman, BEPRC was present as the chief guest while Dr. Md. Sabur Khan, Chairman, Board of Trustees, Daffodil International University spoke on the occasion as the guest of honor. Prof. Dr. M. Rokonuzzaman, Department of EEE OF North South University delivered the keynote speech in the program. Presided over by Prof. Dr. M Shamsul Alam, Dean, Faculty of Engineering, the program was also addressed by Prof. Dr. M. Lutfar Rahman, Vice Chancellor and Dr. Miah M. Hussainuzzaman, Associate Dean, Faculty of Engineering of Daffodil International University.

Daffodil International University (DIU) warmly welcomed freshers of the Summer 2025semester. The day-long, grand celebration of the "Orientation Program Summer 2025" included discussion sessions, introductions, sports, and cultural events.

The program was held on Tuesday, May 06, at the university's Shadhinota Sommelon Kendro in Daffodil Smart City, Birulia, Savar. The event was graced by the presence of the freshers. Dr. Md. Sabur Khan, Chairman, Board of Trustees, Daffodil International University virtually joined the program as the chief guest. Country’s renowned Actor Dr. Ejajul Islam was present in the program as the guest of Honour. The new students were welcomed with flowers, and the university’s various achievements and successes were highlighted through video presentations. During this session, the Vice-Chancellor provided academic and practical life guidance to the students. He also urged them to utilize the campus's resources and opportunities for their future development while building themselves as responsible citizens.

In his video message, the Chairman of the Board of Trustees, Dr. Md. Sabur Khan, said, "Our expectations from the freshers are immense. I believe they will enrich the university's reputation internationally with innovative ideas and new achievements more than ever before. However, ultimately, they must prepare themselves as humane and valuable assets to the nation. The university administration is ready to provide them with all necessary opportunities for this purpose."

The Guest of Honor , Dr. Ejajul Islam said, "There is much to learn from the small things in life. If you observe, you will see that many less talented individuals achieve success due to hard work. Therefore, you must prepare yourselves by combining diligence and talent from the very beginning of your university life."

Country’s first ever and the largest day-long technology and innovation event, ‘AI Olympiad Bangladesh 2025’, was jointly organized by Daffodil International University (DIU) and Daffodil International Professional Training Institute (DIPTI) today on May 3, 2025 at Daffodil Tower in Dhanmondi, the capital city of Dhaka.More than 700 students, young innovators and technology enthusiasts from across the country participated in the olympiad and with their participation the day became a national celebration of artificial intelligence.

Mr. Shish Haider Chowdhury, NDC, Secretary, Information and Communication Technology Division of Ministry of Posts, Telecommunications and Information Technology was present as the chief guest at the Closing and Awrd giving ceremony of the Olympiad and distributed prizes among the winners. Dr. Md. Sabur Khan, Chairman, Daffodil Family and Chairman, Board of Trustees, Daffodil International University presided over the program. Mr. Md. Munir Hasan, Chief Coordinator, Digital Transformation and Youth Program (Events and Activation) of the Daily Prothom Alo, Dr. Mohammad Nuruzzaman, Chief Executive Officer of Daffodil  Family and Prof. Dr. Syed Akter Hossain, Dean, Faculty of Science and Information Technology of Daffodil International University were present as the special guests.  Earlier in the morning, Prof. Dr. M Lutfar Rahman, Vice Chancellor, Daffodil International University inaugurated the day long Olympiad as the chief guest. Rathindra Nath Das, Convener of the AI Olympiad 2025 and Executive Director of Daffodil International Professional Training Institute (DIPTI) and Daffodil Technical Institute, gave an overview of the overall activities of the event at the program.

While Addressing as the chief guest ICT Secretary Shish Haider Chowdhury said, "Artificial Intelligence is not just a technology, but a tool for nation-building. This Olympiad is taking our youth forward on the path of that capability." ICT Division is relentlessly working for the development of country’s information technology and in coming days ICT Division will extend its helping hand in organizing AI Olympiad regularly, he added. 

Dr. Md. Sabur Khan said, Technology has a close relation with new generation and Bangladesh will go a head in ICT Sector with the contribution of our new generation. 

He urged the Participants to continue their effort in the field of AI and innovate new innovation for the development of the country. 

Three day-long, insightful workshops discussed the real-life applications, ethics, and potential of AI. Participants submitted projects at three levels (primary, secondary, and higher secondary) 

and 36 teachers from the Departments of Computer and Engineering (CSE), Computing and Information Systems (CIS),

 and Software Engineering of Daffodil International University participated in the final judging process.

Champion, First Runner-Up and Second Runner-Up winners in Primary, Secondary and Tertiary level were awarded in the Olympiad.

In Tertiary Level Bangladesh University of Engineering University Team became best of the Best team. Team Wisdomic of Daffodil International University became Champion while Team Tsar of Sha Jalal University of Science and Technology became 1st Rumnner Up and Team OSMAN of Daffodil International University became 2^nd Runner Up. In Primary Level Dreamer Team from Brahmanbaria became Champion while Neuronetic from Dhaka became 1^ST Runner Up and Team OKGS from Joypurhal became 2^nd  Runner Up.

Professor Dr. M Lutfar Rahman, Vice Chancellor of Daffodil International University along with distinguished panelists at the Transformative Expert Talk on Business Law in a Competitive World: A New Dawn in Legal Education organized by Department of Law at Daffodil International University.

A landmark initiative to bridge the gap between academia and the evolving demands of the global legal market, the Department of Law at Daffodil International University (DIU) organized the "Expert Talk Session on Business Law in a Competitive World: Emerging Challenges and Career Opportunities" today on 29 April 2025 at the International Conference Hall at Daffodil Smart City.  The event brought together a stellar lineup of 17 distinguished panelists — featuring eminent deans, senior academicians, international legal scholars, leading corporate practitioners, and industry strategists — from Bangladesh, India, and Canada. Their presence turned the secession into a dynamic platform of knowledge-sharing, critical thinking, and career guidance for the aspiring legal minds of DIU. Professor Dr. Mlutfar Rahman, Vice Chancellor of Daffodil International University was present as the chief guest at the program. An inspiring keynote paper was presented by Professor Dr. Shambhu Prasad Chakrabarty from UEMK, India, who emphasized the future of cross-border legal collaborations, and a vibrant panel discussion featuring experts like Dr. Md. Rabiul Islam, Mr. Abu Saleh, and Barrister Shykh Mahdi, who explored the intricate relationship between international trade law and career innovation. Adding a global touch, international speakers such as Dr. Muhammad Asadullah from Canada and Dr. Debashree Chakraborty from India joined virtually, enriching the conversation with global perspectives.

The session commenced with a warm welcome address by Dr. S. M. Saiful Haque, Associate Professor and Head (In-Charge) of the Department of Law, DIU, who highlighted the vision of the university to produce law graduates equipped not just with textbook knowledge, but with real-world, practice-oriented insights.

Participants were captivated by thought-provoking discussions on a range of topics:

The students described the session as "eye-opening" and "transformative," expressing their motivation to pursue diverse and dynamic career paths beyond traditional legal practices.

The success of the Expert Talk Session marks another milestone in DIU's journey towards nurturing globally competent legal professionals, committed to excellence, innovation, and leadership.

Dr. Md. Sabur Khan, Chairman of GEN Bangladesh and Daffodil International University is addressing at the “`Meet the Press’ on Entrepreneurship World Cup (EWC) Bangladesh 2025. Jointly organized by the Global Entrepreneurship Network (GEN) Bangladesh  and Daffodil International University.  

Today on April 28, 2025 (Monday), at a vibrant `Meet the Press’ the official campaign for the Entrepreneurship World Cup (EWC) Bangladesh 2025 was launched. The `Meet the Press’  was held at Daffodil Plaza, Dhanmondi, Dhaka and jointly organized by Daffodil International University and the Global Entrepreneurship Network (GEN) Bangladesh.

The program was presided over by Dr. Md. Sabur Khan, Chairman of GEN Bangladesh and Daffodil International University. The Entrepreneurship World Cup (EWC) is one of the world’s largest and most prestigious startup pitch competitions, offering participants the opportunity to showcase their innovative ideas and business plans for a chance to win a share of USD 3 million in prizes and investment opportunities. For the 2025 edition, startups from Bangladesh will be selected across three categories: Idea Stage, Early Stage, and Growth Stage.

Chairman of GEN Bangladesh and Daffodil International University Dr. Md. Sabur Khan said, "Innovation will build the Bangladesh of the future. And the Entrepreneurship World Cup is the first step to realizing that dream."

Speakers at the event emphasized that EWC represents a significant opportunity for Bangladesh’s startup ecosystem, enabling entrepreneurs to connect with global investors, mentors, and technology leaders.

Professor Dr. M. Lutfar Rahman Appointed Honorary Advisor to OIC-COMSTECH for South and Southeast Asia

Dhaka, Bangladesh — Renowned Bangladeshi educationist and IT researcher, Professor Dr. M. Lutfar Rahman, has been appointed as the Honorary Advisor for South and Southeast Asia to the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Standing Committee on Scientific and Technological Cooperation (COMSTECH).

Professor Rahman, currently serving as the Vice Chancellor of Daffodil International University and a part-time Member of the Bangladesh Accreditation Council, is widely recognized for his significant contributions to science, technology and education. He was the founding Vice Chancellor of Begum Rokeya University, Rangpur, and is acclaimed for his extensive research in the fields of digital systems, microprocessor applications, data communications, computer networks, information security and cryptography.

COMSTECH, a specialized committee of the OIC, is tasked with strengthening cooperation among member countries in the areas of science, technology, higher education and health. It aims to enhance institutional capacities through strategic programs, training initiatives, and the implementation of OIC resolutions that drive scientific and technological progress. His appointment to COMSTECH is a testament to his unwavering commitment to advancing scientific development and fostering regional collaboration among OIC member states, particularly within South and Southeast Asia.

Professor Rahman began his career as a Scientific Officer in Pakistan (now Bangladesh) Atomic Energy Commission and later worked a lecturer at the Higher Institute of Electronics in Libya. He joined the University of Dhaka as in the Department of Applied Physics, Electronics and Communication Engineering in 1984. In 1992, he became the founding Chairman of the Department of Computer Science (now Computer Science and Engineering), and was appointed to Professor in 1994. He also served as Director of the University’s Computer Center (now Institute of Information Technology) from 1994 to 1998.

A prolific academic, Professor Rahman has authored over 200 research papers and numerous scientific and technical articles. He has also written or edited eighteen books in the fields of electronics, computer science, and communication—many of which are widely used as university textbooks.

Daffodil International University (DIU) hosted ‘Nabanno e Bangaliyana,’ a vibrant celebration of rural culture and the rich heritage of Bengal. The highlight of the event was an inter-university folk competition featuring participants from eight (8) universities.

The program, organized by DIU’s Change Together club, took place on November 25 (Monday) at the university’s campus in Birulia, Savar. The Treasurer of DIU, Dr. Hamidul Haque Khan, graced the event as the Chief Guest. Special guests included Prof. Dr. Md. Bellal Hossain, Dean of the Faculty of Health and Life Sciences, and Prof. Dr. Liza Sharmin, Dean of the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences. Also present were Assistant Professor and Director (In-Charge) of Student Affairs Amit Chakraborty, alongside the club’s conveners and members.

The event was further enriched by the presence of popular celebrities Irfan Sajjad, Tahiya Tajin Khan Ayesha, and members of the Voyal team, who joined as special guests.
The inter-university folk competition featured teams from several prominent universities, including: IUB Music Club, BRAC University Cultural Club, BUFT Fashion Club, North-South University Folk Creation, Dhaka International University Cultural Club, Natyam, Jahangirnagar University, Southeast Cultural Society, Eastern University Cultural Club (EUCC). Additionally, the event included a DIU Startup Market where young entrepreneurs showcased innovative and creative products. The program was further enlivened by mesmerizing performances of traditional folk songs and dances, highlighting the beauty of Bengali heritage.

Jasia Mustafa, Lecturer (Senior Scale) of the Department of Management and Convener of the Change Together club, stated, ‘Nabanno e Bangaliyana’ is a heartfelt tribute to the traditions of Bengal. It has inspired students and the community to reconnect with the cultural roots of Bengal, fostering unity and creativity. This celebration of love and respect for heritage has left a lasting impression on all participants.

Daffodil International University (DIU) has signed Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) with ten (10) prestigious universities around the world. These agreements were signed with the commitment to fostering collaborative attitudes in the international educational sector and the promise of providing modern education to students.

Recently, during the 17th General Conference of the Association of the Universities of Asia and the Pacific (AUAP) held at Jagran Lakecity University in Bhopal, India from November 18–20, 2024, these agreements were officially finalized. On behalf of DIU, the Founder and Chairman of the Board of Trustees, Dr. Md. Sabur Khan, signed the documents. The universities with which DIU has signed these agreements include Adamson University, Bataan Peninsula State University, Our Lady of Fatima University, and Liceo de Cagayan University from the Philippines; Vikrant University and IES University from India; Mainz University of Applied Sciences from Germany; Washington University of Science and Technology from the USA; Danubius University from Romania; and University of Saint Joseph from Macau, China.

Through these agreements, the universities will collaborate on joint research, new academic innovations, faculty and student exchange programs, virtual learning platforms, and creating scholarship opportunities for students. DIU has entered into these agreements with the goal of addressing current global challenges in education, promoting cultural exchange, and enhancing mutual cooperation between these international educational institutions. Additionally, DIU is committed to ensuring a modern and sustainable educational environment on the global stage.

In his speech at the conference, Dr. Md. Sabur Khan stated that these agreements will help improve the quality of education worldwide and create more academic opportunities for faculty and students. He emphasized the need for further cooperation between institutions to make education more technology-driven and student-friendly.

After the AUAP conference, Dr. Md. Sabur Khan, at a special invitation, visited IES University in India on November 21. During this visit, he signed another separate MoU with the university, in which both he and the Chancellor of IES University, ER. B.S. Yadav, agreed to jointly carry out various activities and pledged to improve the education sector. Furthermore, during a special session, Dr. Khan advised the young students of IES University to prepare themselves to emerge as entrepreneurs. As a successful entrepreneur in Bangladesh's technology and educational sector, Dr. Khan has been regularly conducting sessions at various universities and conferences across Asia to guide and motivate young entrepreneurs with valuable insights and strategies to succeed in the current market.

Daffodil International University is hosting ICPC-2024 (International Collegiate Programming Contest-2024) Asia Regional Dhaka Site on December 07, 2024 at Shadhinota Sommelon Kendra of the university at Daffodil Smart City at Birulia, Savar Dhaka.  This was announced in a “ Meet the Press Program held today on November 24, 2024 at National Press Club in the capital. It was informed at the `Meet the Press’ that the International Collegiate Programming Contest (ICPC), organized by the ICPC Foundation, is one of the largest platforms for students worldwide to showcase their programming skills, teamwork, and problem-solving abilities. 50,000 students from more than 3,000 universities worldwide participate in this competition every year. After completing the competition at the regional level, the best team is selected for the World Finals. The winning teams in the Dhaka regional stage will have the opportunity to directly participate in the 2025 World Finals. The World's Largest Onsite Programming Competition Dhaka Regional ICPC 2024, with 308 participating teams, has achieved the status of the largest onsite programming competition in the world today. 2,489 teams from 148 public and private universities and various IT institutes of Bangladesh participated in the preliminary round. These teams are selected based on the results of this round and taking into account past success and performance. While no announcement has yet been made as to where the world finals of the global competition will be held in 2025, the latest round of meetings between China and Mexico is a huge honor for whichever country hosts it.

The press conference informed that the competition will be held on December 7 from 8 am to 9 pm (non-stop) at the University's Independence Conference Center in Daffodil Smart City, Savar.

Top 10 universities will get cash prize, certificate and first 3 teams and top women team will get cash prize, certificate and champion trophy. First place winners will receive a direct invitation to participate in the 2025 World Finals.

In addition, all winners (except Champion University) will receive a direct invitation to participate in the 2025 Asia West Finals. Regional winners from India, Pakistan, Iran, Sri Lanka and Afghanistan will also participate in the Asia West finals (excluding Champion University). Asia West's leading teams are also invited to participate in the World Finals.  This year's event includes Junior Competitive Programming Contest to attract new generation to programming, where school level students can participate, informed the press conference.

The successful organization of the ICPC 2024 competition has the important contribution of various subsidiary organizations: DutchBangla Bank Limited is providing direct sponsorship as a platinum sponsor. Bangladesh Computer Council (BCC): Engaged in technical cooperation under Information and Communication Technology Department. It was informed in the press conference that Daffodil Computers Limited is providing necessary technical support as a hardware support partner.

Special aspects of the competition:

1. Micro Credential Program Launched: Daffodil International University has launched a special micro credential program for students of the Faculty of Science and Information Technology (Rijhwan) along with the competition. Under this program, students can acquire specialized skills like AWS, Oracle and Competitive Programming, which will make them international professional skills. 2.Large scale event: The country's largest job fair event, where leading IT companies will participate. 3.     Live scoreboard display and various tech talk sessions during the competition. With the efforts of Daffodil International University and its affiliates, this year's competition will serve as a milestone not only for the technology students, but for the overall progress of the country's IT sector.
