Daffodil International University’s ‘One Student, One Laptop’ Project:
Another 500 Students Receive New Laptops

In order to make the young generation more compatible with the growing information technology sector, Daffodil International University (DIU) has organized a program to distribute 500 more laptops completely free of charge to students as part of the ‘One Student, One Laptop’ project. Since 2010, the university has distributed more than 65 thousand laptops among its students.

On Saturday (21 June), this year’s laptop distribution program began through an inauguration ceremony at the university campus in Daffodil Smart City, Birulia, Savar. The CEO of Metronet Bangladesh Limited, Brigadier General (Retd.) Shaikh Muhammad Rizwan Ali was present as the chief guest, and DIU’s Pro-Vice Chancellor Professor Dr. S. M. Mahbub Ul Haque Majumder was present as the special guest. Also present at the event were Dr. Nadir Bin Ali, Registrar of DIU; Professor Dr. Syed Akhter Hossain, Dean of the Faculty of Science and Information Technology; along with other faculty members and students of the university.

To make every student up-to-date with the ever-developing trend of information technology and to increase students’ skills for the competitive job market, DIU initiated the ‘One Student, One Laptop’ program in 2010. The university administration believes that this program will reduce the gap in the usage of digital technology and access to all modern facilities among students. Additionally, the guests at the event opined that through using these laptops, students will enhance their innovative capabilities and become more prepared to face future challenges.

Appreciating this initiative of DIU, the chief guest congratulated the university authorities. He believes this initiative is a remarkable step toward enriching a generation with digital skills. He also expressed hope that empowering students with technology will improve the learning process and help them stay ahead in the global job market.

At this time, DIU’s Pro-Vice Chancellor said, “In today’s education system, the use of technology like laptops has become very common. Without this device, it is hard to survive in the conventional competition, and its use is very important to prove oneself on the global stage. This laptop by Daffodil Computers Limited is of good quality for a student’s use. However, it should be ensured that it is not misused.”

Anika Zaman Meem, a student of the Department of Nutrition and Food Engineering who received a laptop, expressed her feelings and said, “This laptop will be very helpful for my studies. Not every household has a personal laptop or computer; usually, they have to work in the lab for their practice. However, this time, the laptop will surely have a positive impact on our education.”

The main goal of the ‘One Student, One Laptop’ program of Daffodil International University is to help students adapt to technology and stay connected with modern education. Through laptops and internet access, students can easily access online resources, academic calendars, financial transaction information, and also participate in online classes.
