International Mother Language Day 2026 Observed at Daffodil International University in
Honor of the Language Martyrs

On the occasion of Amar Ekushey February, Daffodil International University (DIU), located at Daffodil Smart City, observed Martyrs’ Day and International Mother Language Day 2026 with due respect and solemnity. Teachers, students, and officials participated actively throughout the day, creating an atmosphere of remembrance, pride, and commitment across the campus.

At the first hour of February 21 , a delegation led by the Pro-Vice Chancellor, Professor Dr. Mohammed Masum Iqbal, paid tribute by placing a floral wreath at the Central Shaheed Minar. Teachers, officials, and students were present and observed a moment of silence in memory of the brave martyrs of the Language Movement. Deep respect was expressed for those who sacrificed their lives to establish Bangla as a state language.

Later in the morning, another floral tribute was offered at the Central Shaheed Minar of  DIU campus under the leadership of the Proctor, Professor Dr. Shaikh Muhammad Allayear, with the participation of teachers, students, and officials. Before placing the wreath, a one-minute silence was observed seeking peace for the departed souls of the language martyrs and honoring their great sacrifice and contribution.

On this occasion, the university authorities emphasized the importance of embracing and promoting the spirit of the Language Movement. In a statement, the university said, “The Great Language Movement is a glorious chapter in our national history, setting an unparalleled example of sacrifice, rights, and identity. Everyone must remain conscious and responsible in ensuring the proper practice, correct use, and preservation of our mother language. It is our collective duty to pass on the spirit of Ekushey to future generations. The Bengali nation’s selfless sacrifice for the recognition of their mother tongue stands as a unique precedent in world history. In recognition of this great sacrifice, 21 February has been internationally acknowledged as International Mother Language Day, which remains an integral part of our national pride and identity. The spirit of Ekushey is not confined to a single day; it must be reflected in our daily lives, culture, and values.
