at Daffodil International University
Daffodil International University is dead against tobacco from its inception and every year this university organizes lots of anti tobacco campaign program. On June 23, 2008 during celebrating World Tobacco Free Day, Mr. Md. Sabur Khan, Chairman Board of Trustees declared Daffodil International University as No Smoking University where country’s renowned media personalities like Novelist-Anisul Haque, Magician- Jewel Aiche, Singer – Mahamuduzzaman Babu, were present. Till today this declaration has been strictly maintained.
Daffodil International University in collaboration with Association for Prevention of Drug Abuse (MANAS), United Nations Information Center (UNIC), Management and Resource Development Initiative (MRDI), The Daily Prothom Alo and many others organization continues Anti Tobacco Campaign through out the world.
In 2011 Daffodil International University observed World Tobacco Free Day with elaborate program. The program included rally, seminar, “Anti Tobacco Poster Competition, Anti Tobacco mass signature collection in the longest Banner first ever of its kind in Bangladesh which was inaugurated by Prof. Dr. Golam Rahman in front of National Press Club, National Museum university premises. Daffodil International University also organized seminar on “Tobacco Control Act and Bangladesh on May 30, 2011 in observance of World Tobacco Free Day where Chief Whip of the National Parliament Md. Abdus Shahid was present as the chief guest.
A Short Film show on - “Taste of Smoke” was arranged at the auditorium to create among the students. The students of Daffodil International University also brought out little magazine time to time as apart of their Anti tobacco Campaign.
An anti-tobacco campaign was jointly organized by Daffodil International University, Bangladesh Open Source Network (BdOSN) and World Health Organization (WHO), Bangladesh Country Office on November 18, 2008 at Daffodil International University auditorium. The theme of the program of that year was 'No Tobacco Day - Tobacco Free Youth'.
DIU Organized Inter University Debate Competition to mark “World Anti Drug Day-2011”
Very recently on January 19, 2012 Daffodil International University organized a seminar on “ Young Generation and Drug Abuse in Bangladesh where Home Minister Advocate Sahara Khatun were present as the chief guest.
Film show to help the Aila Victims
JMC Film Club organized a film show to help Aila Victims last Saturday, June 20, 2009. Mr. G. Rabbany Biplab, Secretary General, International Federation of Film Society was present at the inaugural ceremony as guest of honor. DIU Registrar Professor Mizanur Rahman, Head of ETE Dept Professor GM Choudhury and Head of the Dept of JMC Mr. Md. Shahid Ullah addressed about CSR program of DIU.
DIU became partner of BCI project of making web portal for local products 'AMAR DESH AMAR PONNYO'
Daffodil International University (DIU) with Bangladesh Chamber of Industries (BCI) is developing a web portal of local industries to popularise domestic products.
The Industry Minister Mr. Dilip Barua inaugurated the digitizing process of Bangladesh Chamber of Industries (BCI) project of making web portal for local products 'AMAR DESH AMAR PONNYO' on Saturday, June 21, 2009.
Daffodil International University as part of the program is providing all technological supports that are from Digital concept to practical implementation.
Secretary of the Ministry of Industry, President of FBCCI, President, BCI, Vice Chancellor of DIU and other distinguish guests were present at the inaugural ceremony held at BCIC Conference Hall.
Employees of DIU contributed one day salary for the flood victims last year
DIU family member stands closer to poor, sick and unaided countrymen. On September 10, 2007 Prof. Dr. Aminul Islam, Vice Chancellor handed over a cheque equivalent to one day salary of DIU employee to the honorable Chief Advisor of the Caretaker Government of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh Dr. Fakhruddin Ahmed at his office. The Chief Advisor was elated in receiving the cheque and conveyed his gratitude to DIU members who have contributed one day salary for the flood affected deprived people.
Daffodil International University donated dry food and usable items to Bangladesh Army for Sidr affected people. A team of employees headed by Professor Dr. M Mizanur Rahman, Registrar handed over 100 bags of rich, candle, match, biscuits etc. to the high officials of Bangladesh Army after ferocious Sidr hurt. Students of DIU distributed cloths and oral saline among victims also.
At the season of huge wintry weather DIU stands closer to sufferers with ration hands. DIU family loves to help the unfortunates and disable country peoples. Past year, Professor Aminul Islam, the Vice Chancellor of DIU visited TiTi Para Bosti and distributed sweater and frost Cloths among sufferers and poor families. At the time of distribution, Professor Islam asked the students to achieve virtues of civilization & patriotism so that they can contribute to socio-economic development of the motherland.
