A New Horizon in the Engineering Technology Industry: 'Daffodil CAE Centre, Bangladesh' Inaugurated
A new chapter in Bangladesh's engineering and technology landscape is beginning with the official launch of the Daffodil CAE Center, Bangladesh, a national initiative designed to strengthen advanced engineering capabilities, industry-academia collaboration, research, technological innovation, and high-value technology services. The center is being inaugurated today (Tuesday, 4 August) at Daffodil Plaza, Sobhanbag, Dhaka, alongside the orientation programme for its first batch of participants. Established jointly by Daffodil International University (DIU), the Proyash Technology Foundation, and six technology companies, the center is expected to play a significant role in developing industry-ready engineering professionals and accelerating technology-driven innovation in Bangladesh.
The inauguration ceremony is being led by Dr. Md. Sabur Khan, Chairman of Daffodil Group and Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Daffodil International University, as the chief guest. Dr. Syed Wahiduzzaman, Co-Founder and Senior Vice President of Gamma Technologies Inc. (USA), is attending as the special guest. Other distinguished guests include Mahbub Zaman, former President of BASIS and Chairman of Datasoft Manufacturing & Assembly Incorporated Ltd.; Engineer Forkan Bin Kashem, former Secretary General of BASIS; Dr. Nuruzzaman, CEO of Daffodil Group; along with representatives from leading industries, faculty members, researchers, engineers, students, and invited guests.
The center has been established following a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed between Daffodil International University, the Proyash Technology Foundation, and six technology companies. Its primary objective is to expand education, research, industry collaboration, technology transfer, human resource development, and the application of Computer-Aided Engineering (CAE) technologies in Bangladesh. The initiative also seeks to establish a strong national foundation for CAE-driven industrial research, innovation, and commercial applications.
According to the organizers, Computer-Aided Engineering has become an indispensable technology across modern industries, including automotive, electronics, semiconductors, aerospace, power generation, renewable energy, healthcare, smart manufacturing, and infrastructure development. By creating an effective bridge between academia and industry, the Daffodil CAE Center is bringing together students, researchers, and industry professionals on a single platform to develop technology-based solutions to real-world engineering challenges.
Initially, the center is focusing on System Modeling and Simulation. Its future expansion plans include Finite Element Analysis (FEA), Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD), Multiphysics Simulation, Power Electronics Simulation, Automotive Engineering Simulation, Digital Twin Technology, Smart Manufacturing, Industry 4.0, AI-assisted Engineering Design, Product Performance Optimization, Renewable Energy Systems Simulation, Mechatronics, and Embedded Systems. These technologies will enable engineers to digitally design, analyze, test, and optimize products before physical manufacturing, significantly reducing development time, production costs, and engineering risks.
To support world-class education and research, Gamma Technologies Inc. (GTI), USA, has provided internationally recognized, high-value CAE software licenses for the center. This will enable Bangladeshi students, researchers, and industry professionals to access globally recognized engineering simulation technologies and participate in international research, innovation, and industrial projects.
The Daffodil CAE Center will also collaborate with Daffodil Computers PLC, Project Promoters Private Limited (PPPL), Datasoft Manufacturing & Assembly Incorporated Ltd. (DMA), Cybernetics Hi-Tech Solutions Pvt. Ltd., Carl Benz Auto Care, and several national and international technology organizations. These partnerships will facilitate collaborative research, professional training, industry-academia projects, internships, and innovation programmes, creating new opportunities for students to gain practical industry experience.
Speaking at the inauguration, Dr. Md. Sabur Khan said, "Bangladesh's future will be driven by knowledge, innovation, and advanced engineering skills. Through the Daffodil CAE Center, we are building an ecosystem where education, research, and industry work together. This initiative will not only prepare highly skilled engineers but also contribute significantly to the country's industrialization, innovation, and technology-driven economic growth."
Special guest Dr. Syed Wahiduzzaman said, "The Daffodil CAE Center is much more than a laboratory. It is a platform for international knowledge exchange, technology transfer, and engineering innovation. Our goal is to connect Bangladeshi students and engineers with world-class technologies and industrial expertise so they can lead both nationally and globally."
Mahbub Zaman, former President of BASIS and Chairman of Datasoft Manufacturing & Assembly Incorporated Ltd., said, "The Daffodil CAE Center introduces a new vertical for Bangladesh's ICT industry. By integrating computer-aided engineering software, manufacturing, engineering, and innovation, it will create new opportunities for exporting high-value technology services and further strengthen Bangladesh's position in the global digital economy."
The organizers said the Daffodil CAE Center will regularly conduct international-standard training programmes, research initiatives, joint industry-academia projects, international workshops, professional certification courses, faculty development programmes, and student innovation activities. In the long term, the center aims to establish Bangladesh as a regional hub for Computer-Aided Engineering, Engineering Simulation, Digital Product Development, and Advanced Computational Engineering, while contributing to the growth of high-value technology services and supporting the country's vision of becoming a smart, innovation-driven, and globally competitive economy.
