‘Remembrance of July: Tarunner Prottoy’ held at Daffodil to commemorate the July Uprising

A day-long ‘Remembrance of July: Tarunner Prottoy 2026’ program was held at Daffodil International University (DIU) to pay tribute to the martyrs and injured of the July Uprising and to instill the spirit of patriotism, education and responsible citizenship among the new generation. The program, organized at various venues of Daffodil Smart City on Tuesday (August 4), was attended by university students, teachers, officials, students from various educational institutions and invited guests.

Organized with the theme ‘Respect for the past, commitment to education and building responsible citizens for the future of Bangladesh’, the program was designed to preserve the memory of the July Uprising, pay tribute to the martyrs, and foster patriotism, humanity and democratic values among the young generation.

As part of the day-long program, a painting competition was held at the Student Lounge of Knowledge Tower with the participation of invited school students. At the same time, a photography and art exhibition based on the July Uprising and open activities of various clubs of the university were held at the Shadhinota Sommelon Kendro. In addition, a prayer meeting was held in memory of the martyrs and injured of the July Uprising at the Central Mosque.

At the beginning of the main program, the spirit of July was highlighted through a play titled 'July Mahagatha', dance and music performances. After the national anthem, recitations from the Holy Quran, Gita and Bible, and a minute of silence in memory of the martyrs, a documentary titled 'Shravan Written in Blood: Days of Fire' was screened. At the same time, the 'July Uprising Archive' was inaugurated in the name of martyr Shravan.

At the program, six students and injured fighters who participated in the July Uprising shared their experiences. In addition, a video message from the father of martyr Shravan was shown, in which he reflected on the memories, struggle and sacrifice of the July Movement.

Professor of the Department of History at Jahangirnagar University, Dr. Mohammad Golam Rabbani; Member Secretary of Inqilab Manch, Abdullah Al Jaber; and Member of Parliament for Reserved Women's Seat-16, Sanjida Islam, attended the event as special guests.

Member of Parliament for Dhaka-19 Constituency, Dewan Mohammad Salahuddin, attended as the chief guest. Acting Vice Chancellor of Daffodil International University, Professor Dr. Mohammad Masum Iqbal, also addressed the gathering.

Prizes were distributed among the winners of the children's painting competition. Certificates were also awarded to students for their artwork, while various university clubs and organizations that contributed to the successful organization of the program were honored. Representatives of PUSAB, PUNAB and the July Revolutionary Alliance were also felicitated. The day-long program concluded with a performance by the popular band Avoid Rafa.

According to the organizers, ‘Remembrance of July: Tarunner Prottoy 2026’ is not merely a commemorative event; it is an important initiative to introduce the history, sacrifice and democratic spirit of the July Uprising to the new generation. They expressed hope that such initiatives would further strengthen students' commitment to responsible citizenship, humanitarian values and active participation in nation-building.
