Professor Dr. Md. Golam Rahman, Chief Information Commissioner addressing as the chief guest at Seminar on “Commemoration of 22nd Anniversary of Remembrance of the Victims of the Rwanda Genocide” held at Daffodil International University
Daffodil International University and United Nations Information Center (UNIC) Dhka, Bangladesh jointly organized the 22nd Anniversary of Remembrance of the Victims of the Rwanda Genocide on 7 April 2016 at DIU auditorium. The observance included seminar, poetry recitation, drama, and candle lighting.
Professor Dr. Md. Golam Rahman, Chief Information Commissioner was present at the seminar as the chief guest. Presided over by Professor Dr. Yousuf M. Islam, Vice chancellor of Daffodil International University, Mr. Mahmud Hassan, Joint Secretary, Ministry of Liberation War Affairs, was present as the special guest. Syed Mizanur Rahman, Head of the Department of Journalism and Mass Communication of Daffodil International University, Mr. M. Moniruzzaman, Officer-In-Charge, United Nations Information Center (UNIC) Dhaka, Bangladesh also delivered their speech in the seminar.
Addressing as the chief guest Professor Md. Golam Rahman said, we must hate any sorts of anti humanitarian activities where ever it took place in the globe. More than 800,000 people were systematically murdered throughout Rawanda which is marked as the dirtiest and disgrace event in the world. The day is recognized and observed worldwide as the Genocide Day. In our Liberation War such type of anti-humanitarian activities and crimes also took place. We achieved our independence at the cost of lacs of people. We will have to reach the benefits of independence to the door step of all people, he added. He also said, we have lot of glorious history and we will have to ensure bright future of the nation utilizing these glorious events. He urged the young generation to come forward and play the frontier role in this regards.

While addressing as the special guest Mahmud Hassan said, We are living now in a global village, so any sad events of any corner of the world touch our mind and we have to express our solidarity with this.
In his presidential address Professor Yousuf M. Islam said, we all are Human being. We can gain respect through respecting each other. We don’t have the right to snatching others life. The world would become beautiful to us if we all live fine.
M. Moniruzzaman, OIC of UNIC Dhaka read-out the UN Secretary General’s message on the Day. Renowned poets of the country Poet Muhammad Samad, Vice Chancellor, University Information Technology & Sciences, Poet Shihab Sarkar, Poet Rabiul Hussain recited poems on human rights. Candle lighting was organized in memory of the victims of Rwanda genocide. A human rights drama was performed by Daffodil International University theatre group – All Star Daffodils.
