Professor Dr. M. Lutfar Rahman Appointed Honorary Advisor to OIC-COMSTECH for South and Southeast Asia

Dhaka, Bangladesh — Renowned Bangladeshi educationist and IT researcher, Professor Dr. M. Lutfar Rahman, has been appointed as the Honorary Advisor for South and Southeast Asia to the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Standing Committee on Scientific and Technological Cooperation (COMSTECH).

Professor Rahman, currently serving as the Vice Chancellor of Daffodil International University and a part-time Member of the Bangladesh Accreditation Council, is widely recognized for his significant contributions to science, technology and education. He was the founding Vice Chancellor of Begum Rokeya University, Rangpur, and is acclaimed for his extensive research in the fields of digital systems, microprocessor applications, data communications, computer networks, information security and cryptography.

COMSTECH, a specialized committee of the OIC, is tasked with strengthening cooperation among member countries in the areas of science, technology, higher education and health. It aims to enhance institutional capacities through strategic programs, training initiatives, and the implementation of OIC resolutions that drive scientific and technological progress. His appointment to COMSTECH is a testament to his unwavering commitment to advancing scientific development and fostering regional collaboration among OIC member states, particularly within South and Southeast Asia.

Professor Rahman began his career as a Scientific Officer in Pakistan (now Bangladesh) Atomic Energy Commission and later worked a lecturer at the Higher Institute of Electronics in Libya. He joined the University of Dhaka as in the Department of Applied Physics, Electronics and Communication Engineering in 1984. In 1992, he became the founding Chairman of the Department of Computer Science (now Computer Science and Engineering), and was appointed to Professor in 1994. He also served as Director of the University’s Computer Center (now Institute of Information Technology) from 1994 to 1998.

A prolific academic, Professor Rahman has authored over 200 research papers and numerous scientific and technical articles. He has also written or edited eighteen books in the fields of electronics, computer science, and communication—many of which are widely used as university textbooks.
