The two day (April 18-19) "DIU Pharma Career Expo-2025 " has begun today April 18, 2025 at International Conference Hall of Daffodil International University at Daffodil Smart City, Birulia, Savar organized by the Department of Pharmacy of the university. Mr. Abdul Muktadir, President of Bangladesh Association of Pharmaceutical Industries (BAPI) inaugurated the Expo as the chief guest. Professor Dr. Md. Selim Reza, Dean, Faculty of Pharmacy of University of Dhaka was present as the special guest at the program. Presided over by Professor Dr. M Lutfar Rahman, Vice Chancellor of Daffodil International University, the program was also addressed by Professor Dr. Mostafa Kamal, Dean, Academic Affairs, Professor Dr. Md. Bellal Hossaim, Dean, Faculty of Health and Life Science, Dr. Muniruddin Ahmed, Professor and Dr. Sharifa Sultana, Head, Department of Pharmacy of Daffodil International University.
The two-day event brought together students, academics, and professionals from the pharmaceutical industry to share their knowledge, expertise, and research. The festival aimed to provide a platform for students and professionals to exchange ideas and insights about the latest trends, challenges, and opportunities in the pharmaceutical industry. Country’s leading 20 pharmaceutical industries participated in this career Expo. The event featured a variety of activities, including Pharma Olympiad, scientific seminar, keynote speeches, workshops, poster presentations, sports, rally, cultural performance etc. More than 1000 participants attended the event, including students, alumni, faculty members, and industry professionals.
While addressing as the chief guest Abdul Muktadir sad that the country's pharmaceutical industry may lose various opportunities in the global market from next year. As a result of being removed from the list of least developed countries to developing countries, royalties will have to be paid. As a result, the production cost of medicines will increase. He feared that prices will also increase.
Welcoming the event, he said that such an event will create deep interaction with industry and academia and the institutes will be able to produce skilled graduates as per the requirements of the industries, from where the industries will get an opportunity to select good graduates. He said that expertise in analytical science and organic synthetic compounds is very important for the pharmaceutical industry and he called upon the universities to produce skilled graduates in these two subjects.
While visiting the Expo, Daffodil International University Board of Trustees Chairman Dr. Md. Sabur Khan said, "We always try to get students involved in the industry. Because, it is not possible to create a position in the job market by just studying. He also said, after the garment and leather industry, the pharmaceutical industry has the highest potential in both local and international markets. Because the current population of the country is close to 200 million, and due to environmental pollution and disasters, our country is much more prone to diseases than other countries in the world. Therefore, it has increased. Therefore, the pharmaceutical industries are getting the opportunity for practical implementation.
