Professor Dr. M. R. Kabir, Vice Chancellor of Daffodil International University,Ms. Amena Begum, Additional Secretary, Ministry of Youth and Sports,   Brigadier General Mohammad Saif Ullah, NDC, PSC, Director General of the Bangladesh Krira Shiksha Protishthan (BKSP) along with  the awardees at the seminar titled 'Sports as a Profession: Prospects and Challenges in Bangladesh' organized by the Department of Physical Education and Sports Science of Daffodil International University.

Department of Physical Education and Sports Science of Daffodil International University organized a seminar titled "Sports as a Profession: Prospects and Challenges in Bangladesh" and  award ceremony for DIU students who have achieved national and international success in sports; The event was held today on September 07, 2026 at the International Conference Center of the university in Birulia, Savar, Dhaka.

Professor Dr. M. R. Kabir, Vice-Chancellor, Daffodil International University was present as the chief guest in the seminar while Ms. Amena Begum, Additional Secretary, Ministry of Youth and Sports, Brigadier General Mohammad Saif Ullah, NDC, PSC, Director General of the Bangladesh Krira Shiksha Protishthan (BKSP) and Professor Dr. Mohammad Masum Iqbal, Pro Vice Chancellor of the university were present as the special guests.

Presided over by Professor Dr. S. M.Mahabub Ul Haque Mazumder,Dean, Faculty of Health and Life Sciences, the seminar featured a keynote presentation by Professor Dr. Mohammad Sohel of the Department of Physical Education and Sports Science at Daffodil International University. Among others who spoke at the event were Sharmin Akter Shanta, Head of the Department of Physical Education and Sports Science, and Assistant Professor Abdus Salam.

At the event, over fifty students from Daffodil International University were honored for their significant contributions at national and international levels in football, cricket, hockey, volleyball, swimming, gymnastics, boxing, athletics, and martial arts.

Speakers at the seminar stated that the nationwide launch of 'Notun Kuri Sports 2026' and the 'Prime Minister's Gold Cup National Football Competition 2026' aims to foster the physical, mental, and moral development of the future generation—shaping them into healthy, confident, and skilled athletes as well as patriotic citizens—while also identifying latent sporting talent and creating state-level opportunities to nurture their abilities; these initiatives reflect the implementation of the government's election manifesto. At the seminar, speakers emphasized making sports a compulsory part of the curriculum starting from the fourth grade and recommended establishing a pay structure for athletes at the national level. They also urged the government to set up more specialized sports education institutions to improve the standard of sports in the country.
