Dr. Md. Sabur Khan, Founder and Chairman of Daffodil Group and Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Daffodil International University (DIU), participated as a special guest and speaker at the 2026 Biennial National Convention of the American Association of Bangladeshi Engineers & Architects (AABEA) in Detroit, Michigan.

The three-day convention, held from September 25–27, brought together Bangladeshi engineers, architects, computer scientists, researchers, academics and professionals from across the United States. The event provided a platform for professional exchange, networking, and discussion on opportunities to contribute to Bangladesh’s development.

In his address titled “Philanthropy, Education, and Social Impact for Bangladesh,” Dr. Khan emphasized the importance of transforming philanthropy from short-term assistance into long-term capability-building. He highlighted the principle of moving “from charity to capability” and “from opportunity to dignity,” with education, skills development, mentorship and access to opportunities serving as key drivers of sustainable social impact.

Dr. Khan also highlighted the potential of collaboration among universities, communities, industry and the Bangladeshi diaspora. He encouraged professionals to contribute not only through financial support but also through mentoring, technical expertise, project guidance, professional networks and pathways to employment and entrepreneurship.

Dr. Khan further stressed the importance of measuring social impact through tangible outcomes, including learning progress, livelihood improvement, community adoption and sustained partnerships. He also discussed the responsible use of artificial intelligence to widen access while maintaining human oversight, privacy and accountability.

Concluding his address, Dr. Khan called for stronger collaboration between Bangladesh and its global professional diaspora, emphasizing the shared responsibility to create pathways where talent can flourish regardless of circumstance.
