To perceive the meaning of Voluntarism, Daffodil International University has introduced a regular session ‘Art of Voluntarism’that is coordinated by Office of the Director of Students’ Affairs. The session was held for the first time in Daffodil International University on March 13, 2016 at Digital Classroom of DT-05 with the participation of DIU Air Rover Unit and Bangladesh National Cadet Core (BNCC), DIU Unit. The whole session was facilitated by Mr. Syed Mizanur Rahman, Co-author & Coordinator of "Art of Living" & Director of Students' Affairs, and Mr. Ejaj Ur Rahaman, Assistant Director of Students' Affairs, and Lecturer of Business Administration of Daffodil International University.
At the beginning of the session, Mr. Syed Mizanur Rahman said that, our life is too short and every single moment of our life is unique. So we have to dedicate ourselves towards the voluntary works; and through this we can reach to our creator spiritually. He also conveyed that one cannot be regimented by wearing uniform, he or she must act smartly and always think ‘what can I do?’ and ‘how can I do?’. He encouraged the Rovers and Cadets to do more social works that will give inner satisfaction of them and also intensify the brand image of their university. In this regard, he also mentioned a quote of Mr. Md. Sabur Khan, Honorable Chairman (BoT), DIU: “Behavior is like fragrance”, and told them to behave in a way that spread the fragrantof their image as well as University’s image to the outer world.
In the interaction session, Mr. Ejaj Ur Rahaman was trying to explore the answer ‘Why people do voluntary work?’ from the participants. Some of them told that they do voluntary work: to do civic duty, for recognition, to learn something new, to feel proud and part of a team, to be challenged, to help someone, to keep skills alive. Mr. Rahaman supported all of the points of the participants and add a point ‘to deal irrational people’ with others. He mentioned Mother Teresa's Anyway Poem in this regard. He motivated the Rovers and Cadets to act in a way Mother Teresa indicated in the poem.
At the end of the session, the participants agreed to meet in the interaction session once in a month with DSA. And they believe this kind of session will motivate them more to work willingly and help them to know each other than before.
