Oxfam- Bangladesh and Daffodil International University Debating Club jointly observed “World Food Day” today with the theme “Food Prices- From Crisis to Stability at DIU Auditorium. As a part of the closing ceremony of the 10 day long DIU National Debate Festival focusing on `Climate Change and Food Safety, a “ Food Conversation” was arranged for the participating debaters from different universities and colleges. Hasanul Haque Inu, Chairman, Parliamentary Standing Committee on Post and Telecommunications was present in the programs as chief guest. Presided over by Mr. C.S. Karim, Former Adviser to the Caretaker Government of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh - the Keynote Paper was presented by country’s renowned Climate Expert Dr. Ahsan Uddin Ahmed.

Addressing as the chief guest Hasanul Haque Inu said, It is possible to ensure food safety only by keeping food prices in stability. In this regard, he stressed on the strong monitoring of marketing management policy by the government. He also urged the government to make TCB more active and extend Rationing System at the root level. He also said, it is possible to ensure food safety by establishing a strong coordination among producers, entrepreneurs, business men and government. He also urged the researchers to come forward with new innovations to maximize productivity through their research works.

The speakers in their discussion shed some light on rising food prices and also on climate change and its impact and what can be done to mitigate its impact on the most vulnerable.

At the end of the session debaters from different universities and colleges took part in a question and answer session with the discussants.
