With the aim to gain additional knowledge, learn the way to answer and confidence to write papers Department of Electronics and Telecommunication Engineering of Daffodil International University (DIU) organized “2nd Telecommunication Olympiad 2016” which tends to make participants into very sharp-minded and ‘clever’ problem solvers. Prof. Dr. Yousuf M. Islam, Vice Chancellor, Daffodil International University inaugurated the Olympiad as the chief guest today on October 29, 2016 at DIU Auditorium. Engr. Md. Tomig Uddin Ahmed, Senior System Analyst, Planning Division, Ministry of Planning, Prof. Dr. M. Shamsul Alam, Dean, Faculty of Engineering were present as the special guests. Dr. Md. Golam Mowla Choudhury, Professor, Department of ETE delivered the welcome speech at the program. Prof. Dr. A. K. M. Fazlul Haque, Head, Department of ETE presided over the inaugural ceremony.

Md. Mehedi Hasan of Notre Dame College became champion in the Olympiad while Ishmum Monjur and Md. Hasibur Rahman of the same college became 1st and 2nd Runner Up. In the project fair competition “Quest for Freedom (Manikin)” project of Md. Ashikur Rahman Khan, Department of Multimedia and Creative Technology of DIU became Champion while “Emergency Earthquake Alert” project of Md. Abdullah Al Razib, Department of Electronics and Telecommunication Engineering of DIU became 1st Runner Up and “Home Appliances System” project of Md. Abu Momen Kadria & Md. Al Amin, Southeast University became 2nd Runner up. The “2nd Telecommunication Olympiad 2016” is contested by the scholars of more than 200 participants of 15 public and private universities and colleges and institutions. It’s a battle of wits.

Addressing as the chief guest Prof. Dr. Yousuf M. Islam said, Telecommunication Olympiad is a national Telecommunication competition for exploration and enhancement of knowledge on Telecommunication Technologies. This Olympiad will promote the awareness of the scientific process of Inquiry among students. They will learn to design investigations, connect the knowledge & express their findings. He emphasized the recent trends of technology and also said that the prospects of telecommunication technology of Bangladesh as well as overseas and scope of job sectors for the students.

Mahbub –Ul –Haque Majumder, Acting Pro- Vice Chancellor of Daffodil International University was present at the closing and award giving ceremony as the chief guest and distributed prizes among the winners. Prof. Dr. Engr. A K M Fazlul Hoque, Registrar, DIU, Mr. S. M. Altaf Hossain, Managing Director and CEO of DRIK ICT and Mr. Ahtasam Shams Arafin, General Manager (Planning & Engineering) Mir Telecom Ltd. were present as the special guests.
