Honorable guests along with the writers in pose at the launching of four books by the faculty members of Law Department of Daffodil International University at “Daffodil Law Teachers-Students Day – 2015”  

Like every year to encouraging the joys of reunions and gatherings of current and former students, the Department of Law of Daffodil International University (DIU) organized “Daffodil Law Teachers-Students Day – 2015” at DIU auditorium on August 13, 2015.
Barrister M. Naser Alam, Advocate Supreme Court of Bangladesh and an expert in energy and petroleum law and international arbitration, was present as the motivational speaker and the Guest of Honour at the program. Professor Dr. Aminul Isalm, Professor Emeritus and founder Vice Chancellor of DIU and Professor Dr. Lutfur Rahman, Professor Emeritus and former Vice Chancellor of DIU were present as special guests. Madam Farhana Helal Mehtab, Associate Professor and Head of the Department of Law was the Chair of the session.
Four books written by the faculty members of Law Department of Daffodil International University published in the current academic year were launched by the honorable guests at the program.
The books are:
1. Terrorism and Counter Terrorism: Legal Issues, Challenges and Responses by Md. Abdul Halim, Barrister at Law and Farhana Helal Mehtab, Associate Professor, DIU
2. Juris: A Layman’s Guide to the Law by Abdullah Al Arif, Lecturer, DIU
3. ADR Mechanism: Bangladesh Perspective by Farhana Helal Mehtab and Abdur Rahim, Lecturer
4. Outlines of Evidence Act by Sadiqul Islam Sagar and Talukder Rasel Mahmud, Lecturer, DIU

Professor Dr. Aminul Islam said in his speech that law as a profession is very influential and students of law are very articulate, polite and conscious citizens in every country. He praised the initiative of the Law Department for organizing such a program to build a bridge between former and current students.
Professor Dr. Lutfur Rahman said that we, as a nation, are gradually losing our moral and ethical strength and he urged the law teachers and students to create a moral and ethical base among them. He also praised the initiative and suggested that this kind of program should be organized by other departments of DIU as well.

While addressing, the Guest of Honour, Barrister M. Naser Alam focused on the various dimensions of legal career. He said that numerous opportunities are opening up in our country for the law graduates as our economy is growing, large amount of foreign investment is coming and local industries are thriving. He also mentioned that law students should come forward to fight against the widespread corruption prevalent in the country with a strong moral and ethical base. He praised the research and publications activities of the faculty members of DIU Law Department. After his speech, prizes were given to the winners of Law Essay Competition 2015 and Law Quiz Contest 2014.


The Honourable Vice Chancellor of DIU Professor Dr. Yousuf M. Islam joined in at the later part of the program and delivered a short yet insightful speech. He said that the gathering of former and current students would create a unity among the students which will help them in their career development in the future.
Then two alumni of first batch of DIU Law Department delivered their speeches and expressed their happiness to be a part of the program and also expressed their gratitude to be a member of the DIU Law family. Representatives from all the first nine batches of the students who have already passed out from DIU Law Department attended the program.
In the second session, teachers and students of DIU Law Department organized a cultural program. A number of songs, dances, poetry recitals, short plays and ramp modeling were performed both by the students and teachers of the department. The cultural program was open for all and the auditorium was full to the brim.
