1st Founding Anniversary of the Department of Tourism and Hospitality Management of Daffodil International University (DIU) was held today on June 11, 2015 at DIU Auditorium. Mr. Akhteruz Zaman Khan Kabir, Chairman, Bangladesh Tourism Board was present as the chief guest at the function. Founder Vice Chancellor and Emeritus Professor Dr. Aminul Islam presided over the function. The function was addressed by Prof. Dr. Md. Golam Rahman, Pro-Vice Chancellor, Daffodil International University, Prof. M. Monirul H Khan, Jahangirnagar University, Mr. Mahbub Parvez, Head, Department of Tourism and Hospitality Management, DIU, Mr. Parvez A Chowdhury, Manager, Tourism Marketing, Bangladesh Parjatan Corporation, Mr. Musa Ibrahim, First Bangladeshi conqueror of Mount Everest, Mr. Atique Rahman Chisty, General Manager (Acting), Biman, Mr. Anwar Hossain, Director of Sales, Le Meridian, Mr. Md. Rafiqul Islam, Manager, Nazimgarh Resorts, Sylhet. The function was coordinated by Ms. Khadizatul Kobra, Lecturer of the department and moderated by students of the department Nabila Akter and Mahbub Sharif. The day long program included inaugural ceremony, cake cutting, Open discussion on “Problems and Prospects of Tourism Industry in Bangladesh” and Cultural program.

Speaking on the occasion Mr. Akhteruz Zaman Khan Kabir said, to develop the country’s economy, there is no alternate of developing tourism sector and tourism is a creative department related with some other industries which can help develop creative economy. Government has declared this sector as a thrust sector and allocated money in the national budget to nurture the sector and government has already declared the year 2016 as the ‘Tourism Year’ to be observed nationally in Bangladesh. He expressed that Tourism sector of Bangladesh will be flourished as world class standard within 2-3 years. He urged the government to make the visa processing system easier and to introduce e-tourism visa for the development of this thrust sector.

Terming the recent Bangladesh visit of Indian Prime Minister Norendra Moodi as milestone of tourism sector, Akteruz Zamman said regional connectivity among Bangladesh-India-Nepal–Bhutan will boost up tourism sector and create ample opportunity. He urged the students to come forward with new visions and ideas and contribute this sector.
