Prof. Dr. M. Lutfar Rahman joined as Vice Chancellor

Country’s renowned educationist, IT Researcher, Founder Chairman of Computer Science and Engineering Department of Dhaka University and founder Vice Chancellor of Begum Rokeya University of Rangpur, Professor Dr. Lutfar Rahaman joined as the Vice Chancellor of Daffodil International University on 20April 2011. Before joining as a Vice Chancellor he had been working as the Dean (part time) of Faculty of Science & Information Technology ( FSIT) of the university.

Dr. Rahman started his professional career as a Scientific Officer in Electronics Division at Atomic Energy Center, Dhaka in 1967. During that time he was also posted in the Pakistan Institute of Nuclear Science and Technology, Rawalpindi, Pakistan. He worked as a Lecturer in the Computer Department at Higher Institute of Electronics, Beniwalid, Libya from 1977 to 1984.

Dr. Rahman started his teaching career in the Department of Applied Physics, Electronics and Communication Engineering, University of Dhaka, as assistant professor in 1984. When the department of Computer Science (now Computer Science and Engineering) was opened in the University of Dhaka in 1992, Dr. Rahman was appointed its founding Chairman. He was appointed professor at the same department in 1994. He also worked as the Director of the Computer Center (now Institute of Information Technology), University of Dhaka for four years from 1994 to 1998.

He was appointed the founding Vice Chancellor of Begum Rokeya University, Rangpur in 2008. It was possible to start academic programs in Begum Rokeya University within a short time under his leadership. He returned to University of Dhaka in 2009 and also resumed his duty as Dean (part-time), FSIT, DIU.

Dr. M. Lutfar Rahman carried out extensive research work in digital systems, microprocessor applications, data communications, computer networks, information security and cryptography and supervised numerous projects and theses for B.Sc. (Hons), M.Sc. and Ph.D. degrees. He has over 200 research papers and numerous scientific and technical articles to his credit. He authored/coauthored and edited sixteen books in the area of electronics, computer and communication. A number of his books are used as text-books in the university level.

Dr. Rahman worked hard for enhancement of scientific and technological culture in the country. He was Organizing Chairman of the National Conference on Computer and Information Systems held in the University of Dhaka in 1997. This conference was upgraded as International Conference in Computer and Information Technology (ICCIT) and is held annually since 1998. He initiated the National Conference on Communication and Information Security in Daffodil International University, Dhaka in 2005.

Dr. M. Lutfar Rahman is married with one daughter. His wife, Ms. Wasia Rahman, is a lecturer in a degree college in Dhaka. His daughter, Ms. Suzana Rahman, a graduate in Finance and Banking from the University of Dhaka and an M.Sc. in Applied Finance from New Castle University, Australia, is an Officer of Commonwealth Bank of Australia.
