Rally brought out by the students of Department of Tourism and Hospitality Management
The Department of Tourism and Hospitality Management of Daffodil International University (DIU) observed “World Tourism Day 2014” in the city of Dhaka on September 27, 2014 aiming to raise awareness among the people about the importance of tourism and its social, cultural, political and economic values.
The theme of this year’s day was ‘Tourism and Community Development’.
The theme focused on the ability of tourism to empower people and provide them with skills to achieve change in their local communities.
Marking the day, Bangladesh Tourism Board (BTB), Bangladesh Parjatan Corporation (BPC), different tour operators and other organizations chalked out various programmes, including colorful rally and discussion meetings.

The rally, arranged by BTB, started from Matsya Bhaban and terminated at the Dhaka University’s TSC after parading through important city streets.
Inaugurating the rally by Civil Aviation and Tourism Minister Rashed Khan Menon said the government is working with an aim to expand tourism across the country.
Meanwhile, President Abdul Hamid in a message urged all concerned to work together for the development of the sector. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina called upon the private entrepreneurs to come forward alongside the government to create opportunities for engaging local communities more in running the tourism industry.
