Speakers stressed on need for moral education and social values to groom up our new generation to build a crime and corruption free Bangladesh. They blamed over population as one of the best reasons of emerging Dhaka Metropolitan as city of crime. They told these while addressing at a seminar in the capital.

To explore the trend of crimes committed in the Dhaka metropolitan area and analyze the spatial fragmentation of crime in the area, Department of Law of Daffodil International University (DIU) organized the seminar on “Urban Crimes in Dhaka: An analysis of spatial pattern and trend” today on December 10, 2013 at the DIU auditorium.
Professor Dr. M. Lutfar Rahman, Vice Chancellor, Daffodil International University was present as the chief guest and Prof. Dr. M. Zakir Hossain, Director (Studies), Daffodil International University was present in the seminar as the special guest. Presided over by Ms. Farhana Helal Mehtab, Head, Department of Law of DIU, Mr Md. Motiar Rahman, Deputy Inspector General of Police (Crime) presented the keynote paper in the seminar.

While presenting the keynote paper Mr Md. Motiar Rahman informed that Crimes have been identifies as a key issue for Dhaka especially for the urban poor. It is estimated that 17 percent of the total crimes of the country are committed in Dahaka city and out of 80 kno0wn organized criminal syndicates in Bangladesh, 28 of them operate in Dhaka city.
He also said, during the period from 2000 to 2011, an average 156.65 crimes per lakh population were recorded. However, the highest crime rate per lakh population was 184.68 in 2007 and the lowest rate was 126.63 in 2006.
A lively question and answer session was held after the presentation where large number of students took part with great enthusiasm.
