To create awareness and recognition for volunteers & volunteer organizations United Nations Information Centre (UNIC), Dhaka and Daffodil International University (DIU) jointly organized a seminar to mark “International Volunteer Day 2013” on December 6, 2013, Friday at DIU Auditorium. Global, young and active is this year's theme for International Volunteers Day.

Mr. Syed Abul Maksud, Writer, Columnist & Social Activist graced the occasion as the chief guest. Mr. Takayoshi Suzuki, veteran foreign freedom fighter who received highest Bangladesh Govt. Honor and Visiting Professor, Dept. of Natural Science, FSIT was present in the seminar as the special guest.

Presided over by Prof. Dr. Aminul Islam, Founder Vice Chancellor and Emeritus Professor, Daffodil International University the keynote paper in the seminar was presented by Mr. Kazi Ali Reza, Officer-in-Charge, United Nations Information Centre, Dhaka and Mr. M.Moniruzzaman, Knowledge Management Officer, United Nations Information Centre, Dhaka read out the UN Message. The seminar was addressed by Mr. Syed Mizanur Rahman Raju, Director (Student Affairs), DIU, Mr. Parvez Kamal Kyisan, DIU Voluntary Service Club.

 

Beside the seminar DIU Voluntary Service Club was officially launched at the program.

 

Addressing as the chief guest Syed Abul Maksud said, International Volunteer Day (IVD) offers an opportunity for volunteer organizations and individual volunteers to make visible their contributions - at local, national and international levels - to the achievement of the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs). 

Prof. Dr. Aminul Islam said, International Volunteer Day is a global celebration of young people acting as the agents of change in their communities and it takes place each year on the 5th December. It is a chance for both volunteers and individuals to promote their contributions to development, as well as raise awareness for volunteering and encourage others to get involved.
