“The Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award at Daffodil International University” launched today on November 28, 2013 at DIU Auditorium. His Excellency Robert Winnigton Gibson, CMG, British High Commissioner to Bangladesh, graced the launching ceremony as Chief Guest. Mr. Mirza Salman Ispahani, Chairman, Board of Trustees, The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award Foundation, Bangladesh attended the programme as Guest of Honor. Mr. Md. Sabur Khan, President, Dhaka Camber of Commerce and Industry (DCCI) & Chairman, Board of Trustees, Daffodil International University were present as Special Guest.

Addressing as the chief guest Robert Winnington Gibson, CMG said, Since its inception in 1956 the Duke of Edinburgh Awards has been dedicated for young people and has been promoting a spirit of personal development & challenging activities for 56 years, helping many to prepare for the challenges of today’s world. To date the award scheme has helped over 8 million people internationally to achieve their personal best in 132 counties.
He also said that, the Duke of Edinburgh Awards were initiated in Bangladesh just over four years ago and in Bangladesh that figure is 5000, from 29 institutions. Among them are over 60 Gold Awards, with others achieving Silver and Bronze.

Mr. Md. Sabur Khan said, to targeting or achieving the awards students should take lots of mental or physical preparation to carry the challenge and fit them properly specially in technologically, because, now a day’s technology is giving lot of benefits to reach to the whole world. From the inception of the university, we are trying our level best to utilize the technology as a result our students, faculties as well as officials are habituated with technology, he added. He urged the students to be a potential ICT skilled graduate to contribute to the nation. It is envisaged that DIU graduates can stand out by competing with other graduates both nationally and globally with their skill that they have acquire from this university which would boost up their career.
The initiative of The Duke of Edinburgh Award will benefit the whole student’s community of Bangladesh, he added.
