Speakers at a seminar said that Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) allows every human being to acquire the knowledge, skills, attitudes and values necessary to shape a sustainable future and it is the important part for overall development of the country as well as throughout the human habitat.

They also emphasized on Education for Sustainable development which requires participatory teaching and learning methods that motivate and empower learners to change their behaviors and take action for sustainable development. Education for Sustainable Development consequently promotes competencies like critical thinking, imagining future scenarios and making decisions in a collaborative way.
As a part of Education for Sustainable Development in Higher Education (ITP-2013) Department of Environmental Science and Disaster Management of Daffodil International University organized the Seminar on “Education for Sustainable Development in Higher Education” to building awareness for a Focus towards competency in sustainable development ideas and initiatives at Daffodil International University under auspices of Swedish International Development Agency –SIDA on Monday 16 September 2013.
Professor Dr. M. Lutfar Rahman, Honorable Vice Chancellor of Daffodil International University was present at the seminar as the Chief Guest. Ms. QI ZHANG, Professor in Environmental Education Centre of East China Normal University attended the workshop as an International Expert on ESD in Higher Education, SIDA and presented the keynote paper. Dr. Aminul Islam, Founder Vice Chancellor and Emeritus Professor of Daffodil International University was present as the Guest of Honor. Mr. K M Hassan Ripon, CBT Expert and SIDA Fellow and Convener of the Seminar presented a paper on ESD in Bangladesh perspective.

The speakers opined that Education for Sustainable Development requires far-reaching changes in the way education is often practiced today. They also opined that ESD should actively promote gender equality, as well as create conditions and strategies that enable women to share knowledge and experience of bringing about social change and human well-being.
As a private university Daffodil International University has been partnered with SIDA- ESD program for the first time and organized this seminar through the department of Environmental Science and Disaster Management
It was informed in the seminar that the Department of Environmental Science and Disaster Management of Daffodil International University is trying to establish a Centre of Education for Sustainable Development, where all those current issues can be addressed and prepared for the production of skilled manpower/experts those can be contributed for the national and international area of environmental issues through the global climatic change.
