Daffodil International University in collaboration with ICT Education Forum organized a Seminar on “Role of ICT & Computer Education in national development and Expected Syllabus in Higher Secondary level” on May 23, 2013 at University Auditorium. Mr. Md. Sabur Khan, President, Dhaka Chamber of Commerce and Industry (DCCI) and Chairman, Board of Trustees, Daffodil International University was present as the chief guest in the seminar. Presided over by Prof. Dr. M. Lutfar Rahman, Vice Chancellor, Daffodil International University Mr. Shafkat Haider, Director & Chairman, ICT Standing Committee, FBCCI and Prof. Dr. Md. Mahfuzul Islam, BUET were present as the special guests. Conducted by Syed Mizanur Rahman, Director (Student’s Affairs), the keynote paper was presented by Engineer Majibur Rahman, Managing Director (Acting), SME Foundation.
The speakers in the seminar said that it is not possible to implement ICT or `Digital Bangladesh without implementing computer education in Higher Secondary level. So, they demanded for reintroduce of Computer Education in higher secondary level. They appreciated present Government‘s initiative of introducing ICT (100 marks) in HSC level, but they differed about the course content as it is not feasible on real life situation. They strongly criticized including course contents like web page design, HTML or C Programming as compulsory in HSC level without prior introduce of Computer Education or Computer application or make it compulsory in SSC level. They suggested to include basic course contents like: introduction of ICT, Information System, Internet, e- Commerce, e- payment, e-marketing, Outsourcing, Introduction of government’s e- services, security of ICT and safe use of ICT. They also raised question about the necessity of learning the course contents like: number system, digital logic and c programming included in the syllabus for Business and humanities students.
The speakers urged to government to create positions for the post of ICT teachers in government colleges and appoint suitable candidates for those posts. They also recommended for issuing official memorandum ensuring confirmation to teach ICT courses for the teachers who have already been appointed to teach computer education courses in different colleges of the country.
About 150 computer teachers from different colleges of the country attended the seminar.
