Daffodil International University is hosting this most prestigious computing event Association for Computing Machineries - International Collegiate Programming Contest (ACM-ICPC) Dhaka Regional 2012 on Saturday 8 December 2012 at Radisson Blu Water Garden Hotel. ACM-ICPC Dhaka Regional 2012 will be for the first time in such a international venue. This was informed at a “Meet the Press” program held at National Press Club (VIP Lounge) today on November 26, 2012. Prof. Dr. Syed Akter Hossain, Programming Contest Director and Head of the Department of CSE of Daffodil International University announced the details of the event in the Meet the Press. The ‘meet the press’ was also addressed by Professor Dr. S.M. Mahahbub Ul Haque Majumder, Acting Vice Chancellor, Emran Hossain, Deputy Registrar, Nadir Bin Ali, Senior Assistant Director (IT) of Daffodil International University, Sharmin Akter, Lead Software Engineer, Mtx Ltd and Sazzad Rafique, Director of Software Engineering, Therap Services ILC.
ACM-ICPC Dhaka Regional 2012 is an annual competitive programming competition among the universities of the Asia region. The contest is sponsored by IBM and governed under the auspices of the Association for Computing Machinery (ACM). The regional contest winners will get tickets to World Finals 2013 which will be hosted by Saint Petersburg in Russia to join the battle of the brain.
This year Daffodil International University has taken an international approach to host the 16th ACM-ICPC Dhaka Regional 2012 programming contest at Radisson Blu Water Garden Hotel on Saturday 8 December 2012 from 8:00am till 10:00pm. After the first ever preliminary round online contest of ACM-ICPC Dhaka Regional 2012, the biggest online programming contest in Bangladesh participated by 400 teams from 64+ universities, 150 teams based on quota reflecting the past year performances of teams, have been promoted to the Dhaka Onsite event from 64 universities and three foreign teams from China and India. Notably this will be the largest Asia Regional onsite contest.
This year, ACM-ICPC Dhaka Regional 2012 is a full pack festival of computing, fun events, technical talks, cloud computing events, recruitment fair and last but not the least project showcasing. On behalf of ACM-ICPC, ICPC Executive Director Professor Bill Poucher will welcome all the contestants and Mr Joydeep Banerjee form IBM India will host the address as IBM representative along with Professor C J Hwang as the Asia director of contests. Professor Zafar Iqbal along with Shahriar Manzoor of Southeast University and Md Mahmudur Rahman of Mukto Soft will manage the contest judging system. Professor M. Kaykobad of BUET and Prof Abul L. Haque of NSU is engaged in the organizing committee of the ACM-ICPC Dhaka 2012. The contest director Dr Syed Akhter Hossain, Professor and Head, Department of Computer Science and Engineering is looking after all the necessary preparations.
The programming contest is scheduled to begin at 10:00am in the Grand Ball Room (GBR) of Radisson Blu Water Garden Hotel with the presence of ICT Minister Mr. Mostafa Faruq Mohammed and other dignitaries. The contestants will attempt to solve 10/12 challenging problems using computer and network in five hours. The battle of the brain this year expected to be tougher due to the presence of strong foreign contenders. This contest will go live from GBR to Utshab hall in Radisson at the same time. Soon after the contests begin, there will be TechTalk sessions at Utshab Hall along with the display of the contest scoreboard. In this series of technical talks, CTO of Therap (BD) will give a talk on Java Web Application Framework, another talk on Help the Students to be better programmer for the coaches will be from a world finalist Tamim Shahriar, Career in 21st Century: Bangladesh Context by Syed Mizanur Rahman from Career Development Center (CDC) of Daffodil International University, another technical talk from GPIT and the new technology talk from CloudSpokes.com on Developing Application on Force.com & Heroku Platform will be delivered by the Solution Architect Das Nobel. There will be other technical discussion on sharing best practices for the programming contest during the time of contest in Utshab hall.
The Award Night of ACM-ICPC Dhaka Regional 2012 is scheduled to begin at 6:00pm in the Grand Ball Room of Radisson Blu Water Garden Hotel. Information Minister Mr. Hasanul Haq Inu will officiate the ceremony as the Chief guest The top 20 teams will be awarded both the cash prizes and memento of the ACM-ICPC Dhaka Regional 2012 along with the certificate. The Champion team will additionally receive Champion Trophy of ACM-ICPC Dhaka 2012 for the first time in Bangladesh along with other cash and mementoes.
