Daffodil International University hosts ACM-ICPC Dhaka Regional on December 8, 2012

Daffodil International University is hosting this most prestigious computing event Association for Computing Machineries - International Collegiate Programming Contest (ACM-ICPC) Dhaka Regional 2012 in an international venue Radisson Blu Water garden Hotel on Saturday 8 December 2012 with the inspiration from the Honorable Chairman of Board of Trustees Md Sabur Khan. ACM-ICPC Dhaka Regional 2012 will be for the first time in such a international venue. This was informed at a “Meet the Press” program held at Dhaka Reporters Unity today. Prof. Dr. Syed Akter Hossain, Programming Contest Director and Head of the Department of CSE OF Daffodil International University announced the details of the event in the Meet the Press. The meet the press was also addressed by Professor Dr. M. Kaikobad, BUET, Professor Abul L Haque, Chief Coordinator, ACM-ICPC Bangladesh Council, Shariar Manjur, Judging Director and Nadir Bin Ali, Senior Assistant Director (IT), Daffodil International University.

ACM-ICPC Dhaka Regional 2012 is an annual competitive programming competition among the universities of the Asia region . The contest is sponsored by IBM and governed under the auspices of the Association for Computing Machinery (ACM). The regional contest winners get tickets to World Finals 2013 which will be hosted by Saint Petersburg in Russia to join the battle of the brain. Last year 30,000 students from 2000 universities in 85 countries from 6 continents participated in the regionals and only 112 teams advanced to prestigious World Finals in Warsaw, Poland.
It was informed in the Meet the Press that there will be a preliminary round event before ACM-ICPC Dhaka Regional 2012 to encourage maximum teams from all private and public universities of Bangladesh. The registration for ACM-ICPC Dhaka Regional 2012 will begin from 7 October 2012 and will continue upto 6 November 2012. The team will register at the ACM-ICPC site for the preliminary round. The expectation is as many as 500+ teams will participate in the online contest of preliminary round. The preliminary round online contest will be held on Saturday 10 November 2012 between 3:00pm and 8:00pm and monitored from Daffodil International University by the ACM-ICPC Dhaka 2012 jury panel using popular Bangladeshi online judge LightOJ provided for the kind support of preliminary round. The team registration for the preliminary round contest is free.
It was also informed that the preliminary round will select a maximum of 150 teams for ACM-ICPC Dhaka Regional 2012. Besides, there will be foreign teams from India, China, Pakistan, Srilanka, Nepal and Malaysia. With a total of 150 teams, a problem solving contest will be held which is the largest regional contest of Asia for the first time in Bangladesh hosted by Daffodil International University. The contest director Dr Syed Akhter Hossain, Professor and Head, Department of Computer Science and Engineering is looking after all the necessary preparations.
Prof M Zafar Iqbal of Shahjalal University of Science and Technology will be the Chief Judge and Mr Shahriar Manzoor of Southeast University will be Judging Director and Mohammad Mahmudur Rahman of Mukto Software Ltd as Co-Director of ACM-ICPC Dhaka Regional 2012.
ACM-ICPC Dhaka Regional 2012 will be held at Grand Ball Room of Radisson Blu Water Garden Hotel for 5 hours on Saturday 8 December 2012. The contestants will attempt to solve 10/12 challenging computing problems in this 5 hours. Besides, this festive contest will have Technical talks, Road Show, Job Fair, Project Showcasing, Fun Events along with huge cultural show on Saturday 8 December 2012.
This year ACM-ICPC Dhaka Regional 2012 will be very grand computing event and the detail program will be discussed in another press conference on the last week of November 2012.
