Department of English, Daffodil International University, organized a seminar on “Asian Studies: Russian Perspective” today (08 October 2012) at DIU auditorium where the key-note speaker was Ms. Veronika Minina, a research fellow from St. Petersburg University, Russia.

In her speech, Ms. Veronika focused on the inter-cultural connection between Bangladesh and Russia and how Bengali and literature have been an area of immense interest to Russians. She particularly mentioned the popularity of Rabindranath Tagore whose literature was translated in Russian language. She also talked about a possible collaboration between DIU and St. Petersburg University in future so that both the parties may be benefited.

Dr. Binoy Barman, Head of the Department of English, and Prof. Dr. Shusil Kumar Das, Acting Dean of the Faculty of Humanities and Social Science, took part in discussion. Faculty members of the English Department and a good number of students were present in the seminar. There was a question-answer session after her speech and Ms. Veronika answered to different questions asked by the audience.
