United International University became Champion in 2nd DIU National Debate Festival-2012 beating Stamford University at the grand final held today at the Daffodil International University Auditorium. Lt. Col (Retd.) Shawkat Ali, Deputy Speaker of the National Parliament was present at the closing and Award giving ceremony of the festival as chief guest and distributed prizes among the winners. Prof. Dr. Anisuzzaman, Emeritus Professor, University of Dhaka and Prof. Dr. Aminul Islam, Founder Vice Chancellor and Emeritus Professor of Daffodil International University were present as the special guests.

Focusing the slogan “Apna Majhe Shakti Dhor, Nijere Koro Joy” - a 10 day long DIU National Debate Festival-2012 ended today with gala events. DIU Debating Club of Daffodil International University organized this festival in association with Oxfam Bangladesh, Manusher Jonno Foundation and Management and Resources Development Initiative (MRDI. More than 1000 participants comprising 150 teams of different public and private universities and colleges from all over the country participated in the festival. In College Level Notredame College became Champion while Residential model College became Runner Up. In School level Viqarunnesa Noon School Became Champion beating Saint Zavier’s School.

Presided over by Jayantu Bhowmik, President, DIU Debate Club and conducted by Rashedul Islam Ratul the function was also addressed by Syed Mizanur Rahman, Director (Student Affairs), Md. Anowar Habib Kazal, Assistant Director (PR), DIU and Ms. Farhana Helal Mehtab, Convener, DIU National Debate Festival-2012 and Mehedi Hassan Shoib, Past President, DIU DC.

Addressing as the chief guest Deputy Speaker Lt. Col (Rtd.) Shawkat Ali said, Debate is very important for students to build up bright future and successful career in professional life. He urged the students to uphold high ethical standards in mind and bearing modest character through practice of debate to serve the nation. He also urged the students to debate through logical presentation of true facts and data avoiding guessing tendency.

To mark the festival DIU Debating Club chalked out elaborate program including colorful Rally, parliamentary debate competition, festival, barwary debate competition, model debate presentation, seminar, talk show etc.
