Daffodil International University Project Competition held with great enthusiasm
The first Daffodil International University (DIU) Project Competition has been organized with a view to encourage and create enthusiasm among the students to enhance educational excellence, skill and innovative project and research activities on 23 June 2012 at DIU auditorium. Project competition started at 10:30 AM and was open for visitors up to 3:30 PM. The students from different departments of all faculties demonstrated their innovative ideas and activities with great enthusiasm.
This is an initiative inspired by Honorable Chairman, Board of Trustees, to open up a platform for DIU students to demonstrate their innovative ideas and outcomes of their development activities as well as their innovative project endeavors. The initiative of the project competition program has already earned a lot of appreciation.
The project competition was open to all the students of the University. Students from all the three faculties participated and demonstrated their projects in the maiden competition. A total of 61 projects were demonstrated in the competition. Students of all levels from all the departments of different faculties have been participated in the competition. Of the total 61 projects demonstrated in the competition 5 were from Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences (FHSS), 8 from Faculty of Business and Economics (FBE) and the rest 48 were from Faculty of Science and Information Technology (FSIT).
Out of 5 projects of FHSS, 3 were from law, 1 from JMC and 1 from English department. Innovative ideas to create awareness among the people on right to information, women empowerment and different social problems were praiseworthy. The 8 projects demonstrated in the competition by the students of FBE were from the department of Business Administration and the business plans demonstrated were highly innovative and appreciable.
Of the total 48 projects from FSIT 14 were from Nutrition and Food Engineering (NFE), 3 from Pharmacy, 12 from Textile Engineering (TE), 5 from Electronics and Telecommunication Engineering (ETE), 4 from Software Engineering (SWE) and the rest 12 from Computer Science and Engineering (CSE) department. The projects demonstrated include Masters Projects, Final year Projects and Course Based Projects.
The NFE students demonstrated their innovative ideas on the development of nutritious foods using locally available natural ingredients focusing the changes of food habits and the benefit of human health. The students of Pharmacy demonstrated their ideas on improved social medicare services and development of pharmaceuticals using local ingredients that includes innovative lozenges. The students of TE demonstrated their innovative ideas to improve productivity in textile and garments sectors. The innovative projects demonstrated by the students of ETE include speech recognition, 3D animation, cell phone based and related real life systems. The students of CSE and SWE demonstrated their innovative ideas on the development of real life and innovative systems. Through these projects the student attempted to solve the real life problems using technology and their innovative thinking. The students demonstrated their innovative ideas and project activities with great enthusiasm. The projects were praiseworthy and got high appreciation from the visitors.
Honorable Vice Chancellor of Daffodil International University Prof. Dr. M. Lutfar Rahman visited all the projects demonstrated in the competition. He encouraged the innovative efforts of the participants and appreciated their ideas and project activities. Prof. Dr. Aminul Islam, Professor Emeritus and founder Vice Chancellor of DIU also visited the competition and encouraged the students.
Prof. Dr. S. M. Mahbub-Ul- Haque Majumder, Honorable Dean of FSIT, Prof. Rafiqul Islam, Honorable Dean of FBE and Prof. Dr. M. Golam Rahman, Honorable Dean of FHSS visited the projects in the competition and encouraged the participants. A large number of teachers and students of DIU visited the projects demonstrated in the competition. The visitors were very much enthusiastic and appreciated the innovative thinking of the students and their project activities.
The project competition was focused on the development project activities of the students in their respective fields and the students demonstrated their innovative ideas and developments. The students of DIU had the opportunity to interact among themselves, exchange ideas, knowledge and views for enhancing their understanding and mutual cooperation. The project competition has opened up opportunities for the students to choose their future projects and research activities.
The projects were evaluated by a panel of judges headed by the Honorable Deans of the three faculties. A good number of the innovative ideas and projects demonstrated in the competition may be selected to provide support for further development and also for field applications.
The project competition has been successful to encourage and create enthusiasm among the students of DIU for innovative thinking as well as innovative projects and research activities. This in turn has opened up opportunities to enhance their educational excellence, working skill and to build up professionalism.
