Minister of Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Nasrul Hamid, MP is inaugurating the Renewable Energy Research Laboratory and Training Center at the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering (EEE) of Daffodil International University. Nahim Razzaq, MP Convener of Climate Parliament Bangladesh and Member of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Dr. Md. Sabur Khan, Chairman, Board of Trustees, Professor Dr. M Lutfar Rahan,, Vice Chancellor of Daffodil International University and Prof. Dr. M Shamsul Alam, Dean, Faculty of Engineering of Daffodil International University were also present at the program.
Renewable Energy Research Laboratory and Training Center launched on June 3, 2023 at the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering (EEE) of Daffodil International University. Minister of Power, Energy and Mineral Resources (MoPEM), Mr. Nasrul Hamid, MP inaugurated the Renewable Energy Research Laboratory and Training Center as the chief guest while Mr. Nahim Razzaq, MP Convenor of Climate Parliament Bangladesh and Member of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Ministry of Foreign Affairs, joined the program as the special guest. Presided over by Professor Dr. M Lutfar Rahan,, Vice Chancellor Daffodil International University the program was also addressed by Dr. Md. Sabur Khan, Chairman, Board of Trustees, and Prof. Dr. M Shamsul Alam, Dean, Faculty of Engineering, Prof. Dr. Md. Shahid Ullah, Head of the Department of EEE and Dara Abdus Sattar, Associate Head of EEE Department of Daffodil International University.
Addressing as the chief guest at the inaugural ceremony, Minister of State for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Nasrul Hamid, MP said that the country's largest and most modern Paira Thermal Power Plant has been closed due to lack of coal. As a result, there is about 2000 MW of load shedding. The minister said that it will take about 25 days to restart.
He said, in the draft of the Integrated Energy and Power Master Plan 2023, more importance has been given to increase the production capacity of fossil fuel-based electricity compared to renewable electricity.
The Renewable Energy Laboratory is a significant milestone for our department as it aims to foster innovation, research, and development in the field of renewable energy technologies. We believe that this state-of-the-art laboratory will not only enhance the educational experience of our students but also contribute to the advancement of sustainable solutions for our community and beyond.
