April 08, Dhaka, Bangladesh: To create awareness to prevent sexual harassment, eve-teasing, ragging, and violence against women Daffodil International University organized a seminar on the, titled "Say No to Sexual Harassment: Don’t Be Silent, Be Strong." The event was organized by the University's Complaint Committee to Prevent Sexual Harassment on April 08, 2023 at International Conference Hall of the university at Daffodil Smart City, Birulia, Savar, Dhaka.

Dr. Fauzia Moslem, President of Bangladesh Mahila Parishad, Ms. Mahfuza Liza, BPM, Superintendent of Police (International Affairs), Special Branch of Bangladesh Police and Professor Dr. Sunjida Shahriah, Physician, counselor, psychotherapy practitioner Phoenix Wellness Center Bangladesh and Member Secretary of Palliative Care Society of Bangladesh were present as the special guests. Dr. Sharifa Sultana, Chairperson of DIU Complaint Committee to Prevent Sexual Harassment and Deputy Proctor presided over the program. Professor A M M Hamidur Rahman, Dean of the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, Professor Dr. Shaikh Md. Allayear, Proctor, Professor Dr. Syed Mizanur Rahman, Director of Student Affairs, Dr. Liza Sharmin, Head of Department of English, also spoke at the event.

Addressing as the chief guest Dr. Fauzia Moslem emphasized on the need to eradicate sexual harassment and violence against women from society. She stated that the problem is not with men or women, but rather the social structure we live in, and we need to raise awareness and take necessary measures to prevent violence against women everywhere, from the family to the battlefield.

The speakers also spoke about the increasing prevalence of sexual harassment, particularly online, and the importance of making students aware of the issue. Professor Dr. Sanjida Shahriah emphasized that sexual harassment is unacceptable sexual behavior and an attempt to keep women from work and education. Ms. Mahfuza Liza, BPM elaborated the various ways in which criminals can start sexual harassment, including profile hacking and cyber bullying, and how students can protect themselves from such situations.

Dr. Sharifa Sultana encouraged attendees to report any incidents of sexual harassment to the University Sexual Harassment Prevention Committee and emphasized that Daffodil University follows zero-tolerance policy in this regard.

The seminar was a successful effort to raise awareness among students about the prevention of sexual harassment and violence against women, both online and offline. It is hoped that such initiatives will continue to be taken to ensure the safety and well-being of all members of society.
