Dr. Md. Sabur Khan, Chairman, Board of Trustees along with the Champion and Runner Up winners and distinguished guests at the award giving ceremony of of “XV BDC Pre Worlds 2018” - the largest national level English debate tournament of Bangladesh held at Daffodil International University organized by Bangladesh Debating Council (BDC)-the central governing body for English Debate in the country.

 

 

Daffodil International University hosted the largest national level English debate tournament of Bangladesh, the XV BDC Pre WSDC 2018 from September 27-29, 2018, along with the central governing body for English Debate in the country, Bangladesh Debating Council (BDC). 64 teams from all across the country attended this grand tournament.  
After six rounds of grueling debates, the top 24 teams qualified for the knockout rounds in the open and novice category of the tournament. The open grand finale took place at the 71 Milonayaton of Daffodil International University on September 29. Debating on the topic –‘Assuming feasibility, this house would remove fear from the human condition’, Scholastica School, Mirpur finally clinched the open championship defeating Rajuk in a closely contested final.
Earlier, another team from ScholasticaMirpur also secured the novice championship beating Adamjee Cantonment College in the novice final, making it a clean sweep for the institution. Kazi Fardeen Ishraq became the debater of the tournament while JubayerIbn Hamid and Shafi Nur-E-Aziz, all from Scholastica won the best speaker in the open and novice finals respectively.
Dr. Md. Sabur Khan, Chairman, Board of Trustees, Daffodil International University was present in the grand finale and the closing ceremony as the chief guest. Professor Dr. A. M. M. Hamidur Rahman, Dean, Faculty of Humanities & Social Science and Professor Dr. FarhanaHelalMehtab, Associate Dean, Faculty of Humanities & Social Science and the Chief Advisor of XV BDC Pre WSDC 2018 Hosted by Daffodil International University were also present at the closing ceremony and handed over prizes to the winners of the tournament.
The selection committee of Bangladesh Debating Council has chosen the top 33 debaters from this tournament for the national camp.After a rigorous process in the upcoming months, the best five of them will go on to form “Team Bangladesh” to represent the country at the “World Schools Debating Championship”, the world cup of school debate in Sri Lanka in 2019.
This year, Bangladesh was ranked as the 7th best team in the world at the World Schools Debating Championship held in Zagreb, Croatia. As such, in 2019, BDC aims to progress even further and the first step towards achieving that goal was organizing the PreWorlds successfully.
