Participants contesting at the largest national level English debate tournament of Bangladesh “XV BDC Pre Worlds 2018” began today at Daffodil International University organized by Bangladesh Debating Council (BDC)-the central governing body for English Debate in the country.
The largest national level English debate tournament of Bangladesh, “XV BDC Pre Worlds 2018” began on September 27, 2018 at Daffodil International University. Daffodil International University is hosting this mega event along with the central governing body for English Debate in the country, Bangladesh Debating Council (BDC). 64 teams from all across the country are attending this grand tournament.
The top debaters from this tournament will be chosen for the national camp and after a rigorous selection process, the best five of them will go on to form “Team Bangladesh” to represent the country at the “World Schools Debating Championship”, the world cup of school debate in Sri Lanka in 2019.
This year, Bangladesh was ranked as the 7th best team in the world at the World Schools Debating Championship 2018 held in Zagreb, Croatia. As such, in 2019, the organizers want to progress even further and the first step towards achieving that goal is to organize the Pre-WSDC, with the aim of selecting the national team.
Professor Dr. Farhana Helal Mehtab, Associate Dean, Faculty of Humanities & Social Science, and the Chief Advisor of “XV BDC Pre World School Debating Championship 2018 ” declared the tournament open with a grand total of 400 debaters, organizers, adjudicators and volunteers in the premises of DIU, Dhanmondi, Dhaka.
