Dr. Shah Mahfuzur Rahman, Head of the Food Safety Unit, Institute of Public Health under the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, is delivering lecture on “Food Safety - Public Health Importance”.

 

Department of Public Health organized a Workshop entitled “Food Safety and Food Security - Public Health Importance” held on 30 June, 2018 in the Digital Class Room, Department of Public Health, Daffodil Tower, DIU.  Eighteen (18) foreign students from different departments of DIU attended the workshop. Dr. Shah Mahfuzur Rahman, Head of the Food Safety Unit, Institute of Public Health & former National Advisor, Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) of the United Nations, Dhaka and Professor Dr. Khaleda Islam, Professor of Clinical Nutrition, Institute of Nutrition and Food Science (INFS), University of Dhaka were present as resource persons.  

Dr. Shah Mahfuzur Rahman presented a paper on Food Safety - Public Health Importance. Dr. Mahfuz discussed on food quality, food hygiene, sources of hazards in the food chain, food safety assurance and public health impact of food safety.

Professor Dr. Khaleda Islam delivered a Lecture on “Food Security - Public Health Importance”. She highlighted different pillars of food security as well as its determinants and elaborated steps and strategies for food security. She emphasized on different issues influencing food security and public health importance of food security.

 Professor Dr. Harun-Ar-Rashid, Head of the Department of Public Health concluded the workshop.  Dr. Rashid thanked the learned resource persons from Institute of Public Health under the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, and Institute of Nutrition and Food Science of Dhaka University for their time and well structured deliberations.  At the end certificates were awarded to the participants. The Workshop was coordinated by Dr. ABM Alauddin Chowdhury, Assistant Professor, Department of Public Health.
