English Literary Club (ELC) in association of the Department of English,Daffodil International University,organized a discussion session on "Being a Writer" in Digital Classroom of the university at Daffodil Tower on 8 January 2018. Professor Dr. Ronny Noor from USA talked on the subjectas the designated speaker.
He said that we need to reform our education system so that students learn how to think independently and become critical thinkers. They should know where they belong, being aware of the historical traditions and indigenous culture. He explicated his thoughts on the progress of society and ways of getting out of parochialism and sectarianism. He advised students not to follow anything blindly, rather question everything, paving the way for new knowledge.
Dr. Binoy Barman, Director of Daffodil Institute of Languages (DIL), delivered the welcome address while Mr. Rakibul Hasan Khan, Head of English Department, delivered vote of thanks. Among other teachers, Mr. Md. Zaki Rezwan, Convener of ELC, and Ms. Shamsi Ara Huda, former Head of English Department, were present. A good number of students also attended the session and some of them asked questions to be answered by Professor Noor.
Dr. Noor is an English Professor and Teacher Trainer at the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley, USA. He did his Ph.D. in English at Oklahoma State University, USA. He is an academic scholar as well as a creative writer. His poems, stories, and essays have appeared in journals and newspapers around the world. He is the author of Snake Dance in Berlin (a novel) and Slice of Heaven and Other Essays (a collectionof essay). An award-winning scholar, he has been honored in Who’s Who in America and Who’s Who in the World for contributing significantly to the betterment of contemporary society.
