Seminar on ‘Research Findings on Dementia-phase II’ organized by the Department of Public Health of Daffodil International University held on 4 November, 2017 at 71 Milonayoton of Daffodil International University. Professor Dr. A. K. Azad, Chairman, Diabetic Association of Bangladesh was present at the seminar as the chief guest and Professor Dr. Yousuf Mahbubul Islam, Vice Chanchellor, DIU was present as special guest while Professor Dr. Ahmed Ismail Mostafa, Dean, Faculty of Allied Health Science, DIU presided over the seminar. Professor Dr. S. M. Keramat Ali presented a research paper on dementia as well as keynote speaker. Prof. Dr. Harun-Ar-Rashid, Acting Head of the department of Public Health delivered the well come speech. Professor Dr. Salamat Khandakar, Associate Professor, Department of MPH and Professor Dr. Nadira Mehriban, Assistant Professor, Department of MPH also addressed at the seminar.

Addressing as chief guest Professor Dr. A. K. Azad said that dementia is increasing in Bangladesh among senior citizens radically. It’s alarming, so that it needs to create public awareness to prevent this disease. In this regard we should conduct more and more research on dementia. Public and private universities as well as other research organizations should come forward to fulfill research works on dementia. He thanked Daffodil International University for arrange this important research work.
Professor Dr. Yousuf Mahbubul Islam said that to create awareness and new knowledge about dementia is the responsibility of a university. For creating new knowledge, it needs to conduct research. But it’s a matter of great sorrow that research fund is very insufficient in our country. We will have to break this tradition and allocate more funds for research works..
While presenting the research work, Professor Dr. S. M. Keramat Ali said that this research paper is second paper on dementia by him. The first research work was covered the area of dementia’s origin, outgrowth and many others. This second paper has covered the area of dementias causes, symptom, prevention etc. He also said, it’s time to create awareness about dementia. If we do not make people aware about dementia from now, it will increase day by day in Bangladesh in coming days.
