Players of Daffodil International University Chess Team
Daffodil International University (DIU) is taking part in the ongoing Walton Second Division Chess League organized by Bangladesh Chess Federation (BCF) on 22-28 October 2017. The league was inaugurated in the federation hall room in Dhaka on Sunday.
DIU has sent a 6-member chess team, led by Dr. Binoy Barman, Director, Daffodil Institute of Languages (DIL) and Associate Professor, Department of English, Daffodil International University. Other team members are: Pritom Saha (JMC), Mohammed Ishtiaq Ali (LLB), Masab Hasnain (CSE), Md. Moinul Hasan Sadik (JMC) and Liton Sarker (CSE). After the second round, the position of DIU team is 17 (among 33).
The league is being played on 7-round Swiss League system. A total of 33 teams are taking part in the week-long tournament. Some hired Indian players are also playing on part of some top chess clubs in Bangladesh including Uttara Central Chess Club, New Nation Chess Club and Dhaka Knights Chess Club.

Top two teams of the league will earn the rights to play in the 1st Division Chess League from the next season. The champion team will receive prize money of Tk 25,000 while runners-up Tk 15,000 and the 3rd ranked team will receive Tk 10,000 alongside trophies and medals.
