Daffodil International University chess team facing a match at the 1st Berger Inter-University Chess Championship
Daffodil International University chess team occupied eleventh position among twenty teams in the 1st Berger Inter-University Chess Championship organized by BRAC University on 25-27 September 2017.
Each team had to play six rounds in Swiss league. DIU team defeated Independent University and Green University teams in the first and third rounds respectively. It made draw with BRAC University and Khulna University teams in the fourth and sixth rounds respectively. And it was defeated by BUET and Jahangirnagar University teams in the second and fifth rounds respectively. DIU team earned a total match points 6 and game points 12.
Jahangirnagar University became 1st (champion) with a total match points 9 and game points 17.5. BRAC University became 2nd (first runner-up) with a total match points 9 and game points 15.5. BUET became 3rd (second runner-up) with a total match points 8 and game points 17.
From DIU, a six-member team participated in the chess tournament. The team members are Mohammed Ishtiaq Ali (LLB), Masab Hasnain (CSE), Pritom Saha (JMC), Md. Moinul Hasan Sadik (JMC), Maleha Afroze (LLB) and Nusrat Jahan Ria (CSE). The team was formed through a selection round held on 27 August 2017. Dr. Binoy Barman, Director of Daffodil Institute of Languages (DIL), a chess enthusiast, acted as their supervisor and advisor.
