Daffodil International University paid glowing tributes to the country’s founding president and Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman marking his 42nd martyr-dom anniversary and National Mourning Day with due respect recalling the August 15, 1975 carnage, when Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman was killed along with most of his family members. The national flag was hoisted at half-mast as the sun rises on August 15, 2015 at DIU main campus as well as permanent campus. To mark the occasion a discussion meeting followed by a prayer offered for eternal peace of Bangabandhu and his family members, who embraced martyr-dom on August 15, 1975 was offered today on August 17, 2015 seeking eternal peace of the departed souls at the Auditorium of Daffodil International University.
Professor Dr. S M Mahabub -Ul- Haque Majumder, Acting Vice Chancellor (Pro-Vice Chancellor) was present as the chief guest in the discussion session.Presided over by Mr. Hamidul Haquer Khan, Treasurer, Daffodil International University, the discussion meeting was also addressed among others by Professor Dr. Rafiqul Islam, Dean, Faculty of Business and Economics, Professor A M M Hamidur Rahman, Dean, Faculty of Humanities and Social Science, Professor Dr. Golam Maowla Choudhury, Controller of Examinations and Proctor, Mr. Syed Mizanur Rahman Raju, Direcotor of Student Affairs. The Program was conducted by Teachers Associate Rashedul Islam Ratul. At the end of the discussion session Maolana Habibur Rahman offered Munajat for the salvation of the martyred souls.
While Addressing Professor Dr. S M, Mahabub –Ul Haque Majumder said, Bangabondhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, the greatest Bangali of all time, Founder of Independent Bangladesh and Father of the Nation is the symbol of unity. He urged the young generation to be resuscitated with the spirit of Liberation War and engage themselves to the task of materializing Bangabondhu’s dream of building a Golden Bengal turning into strength the grief of the great loss of the Father of the Nation. In the mean time he called upon the students to read Bangabandhu’s autobiography. Dr. S.M. Mahbub Ul Haque Majumder urged the students to conduct research works on founder of Bangladesh in higher education. It’s possible to doing research only in the speech of 7th March. Students and teachers of Daffodil International University offering prayer seeking eternal peace of the departed souls of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman along with most of his family members who were brutally assassinated on August 15, 1975.
Treasurer Mr. Hamidul Haque Khan said, Bangabondhu was a visionary leader and the prime mover of independence who led the nation at every struggle and democratic movement including the historic Language mOvement in 1952, Juktafront Election in 1954, movement against Martial Law in 1958, Six –Point Movement in 1966, Mass Upsurge in 1969 and the General Elections in 1970 which all were directed towards attaining the righ to self-determination. Bangabondhu never compromised on the question of the rights of our people. He upheld the interest of Bangali and Bangladesh even at the gallows. Crossing manifold activities and declivities , the great leader finally declared country’s independence on March 26, 1071 and the Bangali achieved ultimate victory through a nine month long armed struggle under his leadership.
The function was attended by all the Head of the Departments and Deans of different Faculties. A Large number of Faculty members, Officers, employees and students were present on the occasion.
