The Speakers at the seminar said, ensuring optimal breastfeeding plays the most crucial role to substantially reduce infant mortality rate and normal growth of babies in the process of building a healthier nation. They said, holistic approach has become indispensible to make the children nutritionally enriched to build them fit for facing the challenges of the 21st century. “World Breastfeeding Week 2017” was observed with elaborate program at Daffodil International University with the theme “Sustaining Breastfeeding Together” to disseminate the scientific evidence based knowledge for the development of awareness for breastfeeding. Department of Nutrition and Food Engineering of Daffodil International University chalked out elaborate program including Rally and Seminar. To mark the week a rally lead by Professor Dr. Yousuf Mahbubul Islam, Vice Chancellor was brought out today on August 06, 2017 from the main campus of the university and surrounded the main streets of the city. The rally was also participated by Prof. Dr. S.M. Mahbub Ul Haque Majumder, Pro-VC, Mr. Hamidul Haque Khan, Treasurer, Professor Dr. A. I. Mustafa, Dean, Faculty of Allied Health Sciences (FAHS), Professor Engr. A.K.M. Fazlul Haque, Registrar of DIU. A large number of students, faculty members and civil society members participated in the rally.

Later on a seminar based on the theme of the week “Sustaining Breastfeeding Together” was held at Auditorium- 71 of the university. Professor Dr. Yousuf Mahbubul Islam, Vice Chancellor of Daffodil International University was present as the Chief Guest in the seminar while Treasurer, Mr. HamidulHaque Khan was present as Special Guest and Professor Dr. A. I. Mustafa, Dean, Faculty of Allied Health Sciences (FAHS) was present as Guest of Honor. Professor Dr. Md. Bellal Hossain, Head, Department of Nutrition and Food Engineering delivered the keynote speech in the seminar. The seminar was also addressed by Mr. Md. Rezaul Islam, Divisional Officer (DO), Bangladesh Breastfeeding Foundation and Dr. Md. Mahmudul Hasan, Assistant Professor of NFE, DIU. A video related to breast feeding provided by the Bangladesh Breast-Feeding Foundation was presented in the seminar.
