Professor Dr. Yousuf Mahbubul Islam, Vice Chancellor, Daffodil International University and Mr. Mahfuz Anam, Editor, The Daily Star exchanging MoU at the signing ceremony of Memorandum of Understanding between Daffodil International University and The Daily Star held today at the conference room of the university.
A signing ceremony of Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for Newspaper Reading Project in the department of English of Daffodil International University was held today ( May 03, 2017) between Daffodil International University and The Daily Star, a leading English Daily of Bangladesh. Professor Dr. Yousuf Mahbubul Islam, Vice Chancellor, Daffodil International University and Mr. Mahfuz Anam, Editor, The Daily Star, signed the MoU on behalf their respective institutions.
The signing ceremony was attended by Mr. Hamidul Haque Khan, Treasurer, DIU, Professor Dr. A. M.M. Hamidur Rahman, Dean, Faculty of Humanities & Social Sciences, Professor Dr. Engr. A. K. M. Fazlul Hoque, Registrar, DIU, Mr. Mominul Haque Majumder, Director ( Finance & Accounts), Dr. Binoy Barman, Director, Daffodil Institute of Languages, Mr. Syed Mizanur Rahman, Director of Students' Affairs, Professor Dr. A K M Fazlul Haque, Head, Department of ETE, Mr. Saleem Ahmed, Head, Department of Journalism & Mass Communication (JMC), Mr. Mohsin Reza, Head, Department of English, Mr. Sher-Ali, General Manager (Business Development), Mr. Mizanur Rahman, General Manager (Finance& Admin), Mr. Tajdin Hassan, Head of Marketing, Mr. Abu Masud Bulbul, Circulation Manager of The Daily Star and other high officials of both the institutions.
Daffodil International University has initiated the project to implement English newspaper reading and learning for DIU students by distributing copies of The Daily Star, to promote knowledge and education of the students of English Department to be executed jointly by both the Parties. Under this agreement Daffodil International University will provide a copy of The Daily Star to the students of English Department and will jointly run quarterly quiz and other competitions among the students.
Addressing at the signing ceremony Mr. Mahfuz Anam said that it’s not a commercial deal but also it’s an intellectual attachment. We want to build up a knowledge-based nation and for that, we should try to increase the culture of knowledge sharing.
‘We also want to get feedback from students. What is their demand, what kind of news they want, we cordially want to know. I think this MoU help us to know the answer of that kind of question, said Mr. Mahfuz Anam.
Vice Chancellor of DIU Professor Dr. Yousuf Mahbubul Islam said that change is going on all over the world. Students have to knowledge in current issues. And a newspaper can keep him/her up to date.
In the mean time he advised to the faculty member to create a facebook group to share the knowledge of newspaper with students.
According to the MoU, initially 500 copies of The Daily star will be delivered among the students (on days when classes take place) of Daffodil International University by The Daily Star.
