2nd Edition of DIU Social Business Design Lab was held on March 30, 2017at the Banquet Hall of Daffodil International University (DIU). The lab was organized by Social Business Centre, DIU in collaboration with Social Business Students’ Forum (SBSF). The Design Lab was inaugurated by Mr. Hamidul Haque Khan, Treasurer, DIU. The lab was presided over by Professor Dr. Yousuf Mahbubul Islam, Honorable Vice Chancellor, DIU and moderated by Mr. Masud Ibn Rahman, Associate Professor & Director of Social Business Centre, DIU. Special attendees in the Design Lab was Mr. Nasir Uddin Ahmed, Assistant Commissioner (Rtd.) Customs, Excise and VAT, Mr. Hasan Ali, President, Ageing Support Forum, Prof. Md. Iqbal Hossain, Ex. Principal, Chandpur Gvt. College, RowshanAra Begum,Ex. DG, Family Planning, Rowshan Ara Kabir ,Ex. DG, Bangladesh Radio, Ferdoushi Begum, Coordinator of elderly program, RIC, Mr. Abu Taher Khan,Project Director, Innovation and Incubation Center (IIC),Professor Rafiqul Islam, Dean, FB&E,DIU. Later on Mr. Kamruzzaman Didar, Lecturer, FB&E, DIU presented a presentation entitled “DIU Social Business Initiative”. Mr. Kazi Mesbah Ur Rahman presented the update of past Social Business Design Lab on behalf of the organizer.
Four new business plans by new entrepreneurs, Md. Sabul Ahmed named “Lilu Garments”, Toufiqur-E-Elahi Zaman named Mom’s Kitchen, Newaz Akbar named Social Mart and Amit Kumar Sarkar named Sarkar Poultry Firm from Sylhet, Jhinaidah and Dhaka were presented in the design lab. All business plans were presented and discussed in detail and referred in groups for further review. All projects were approved for funding and necessary support for further implementation. The businesses will be joint ventures between the business owner and the social business fund provider. Their progress will be monitored by Uddyakta Monitoring System (UMS).

Another session entitled “Can Education be a Social Business?” was taken by Professor Dr. Yousuf Mahbubul Islam, Honorable Vice Chancellor, DIU for young social business learners.
The lab was anchored by Ms. Jasia Mustafa, Lecturer, FBE, DIU where Fatema Nusrat Chowdhury, Sr. Lecturer, DIU, Fahmida Emran, Lecturer, FBE, DIU, Nahian Fyrose Fahim, Lecturer, DIU acted as the business analyst during the Design
